Claudia Winkleman reveals The Traitors’ third series will ‘have people on the edge of their seats’ as she hints at brand new format

The well-liked TV host, aged 52, shared some tidbits about the eagerly awaited upcoming episode, though she cautioned that she wasn’t ready to disclose all the details just yet.

In response to your inquiry, let me rephrase the statement for better understanding: ‘Well, it’s both yes and no, I can’t disclose that information. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.’ The host said this during a recent discussion with The Sun’s TV magazine.

‘There is one twist this year which I think will have people on the edge of their seats.’  

Regarding the upcoming season, Claudia expressed that it will be incredibly thrilling. She anticipates that viewers will find these missions equally captivating as she does.

She concluded by saying, “They continue to grow and improve, and this year, their involvement in the grand scheme of the game is larger than it has ever been.

In 2023, at the age of 52, she clinched her initial BAFTA award due to her exceptional hosting of the popular BBC game show. Following the conclusion of the third season, she and the team were left feeling quite exhilarated.

As someone who has been in the industry for a considerable amount of time, I can confidently say that I have seen and experienced many things that leave me feeling awestruck. However, I must admit that there are rare instances when something comes along that truly takes my breath away. Despite its immense success, Claudia admitted that she initially didn’t want the show to carry on beyond its debut in 2020. This was because she felt it would be fashionable to produce something exceptional only once and then move on.

‘The boss at the BBC literally came over and took my temperature and was like, “We go again”.

Claudia has shared on The Midpoint podcast that at first, she declined the offer to host the show due to her reluctance to stay longer than three weeks for filming in Scotland.

The star declined the job opportunity as she preferred to stay with her loved ones, choosing to remain close to home instead.

After experiencing the authentic Dutch version, I found myself captivated and promptly penned an email to the higher-ups at BBC, expressing my newfound enthusiasm for a change in plans.

Claudia, known for hosting Strictly Come Dancing, explained that at first she declined The Traitors due to her dislike of getting out of bed and leaving her children. They then inquired if she would travel to Scotland for three and a half weeks, to which she agreed.

‘And I was like “I don’t think so” and then I watched the Dutch version and I became so obsessed.

In my message to Kate Phillips, who’s employed at the BBC and extended an employment offer to me, I expressed my excitement by stating, “I’ve arranged train travel, and I can’t express enough how much I’m looking forward to this opportunity.” This role offers a unique chance to observe psychology and gameplay dynamics closely, which is truly a special privilege.

Recently, the BBC unveiled a sneak peek of the upcoming season of The Traitors and announced its scheduled premiere date.

On New Year’s Day, the eagerly awaited sequel of the acclaimed TV show comes back, with Claudia once again taking charge.

In an exciting new sneak peek, the series promises its return with a big explosion of excitement as a fresh batch of individuals prepare to compete, aiming to win up to £120,000 in a thrilling game that combines deception, betrayal, and trust.

In a spooky video, you can see three individuals dressed in cloaks, each holding a lantern, stealthily approaching the castle in the shadows of the night.

As an eerie melody fills the air, a firework bursts overhead, unveiling the show’s emblem and announcing its premiere on New Year’s Day, with the music setting the tone for the upcoming spectacle.

Claudia then appears on screen, telling the camera: ‘Start the new year with a bang.’

For our gripping program, we’ll stick to a similar structure as the past seasons, where three episodes will be premiered each week, broadcast on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays instead.

While the first two episodes will air at 8pm, episode three and beyond will be on screen from 9pm. 

Alongside the fresh civilian series, the official visualized podcast titled “Traitors Uncloaked,” featuring comedian Ed Gamble as host, will air immediately following each episode on BBC Two and iPlayer. In simpler terms, after every episode of the main series on these platforms, you can tune into the Traitors Uncloaked podcast hosted by Ed Gamble.

The BBC has not officially announced the cast for the 2025 season of Traitors and Faithfuls as of now, but the upcoming actors will face a challenging task in following the footsteps of memorable characters from the previous series, such as Diane Carson (the secret mom), the antagonist Paul Gorton, and, not forgetting, Harry Clarke who eventually emerged victorious.

In January, Harry successfully bagged the £95,000 prize from The Traitors TV show by outsmarting his co-contestants, notably Mollie Pierce who finished as the loyal second place finisher.

The Traitors series 3 returns on 1 January at 8pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
