Classic Doctor Who star teases return
As a seasoned Doctor Who enthusiast with decades of Time Lord adventures under my belt, I can’t help but feel a twinge of excitement upon hearing Sylvester McCoy’s recent comments about his potential return to the TARDIS. The Seventh Doctor was always one of my favorites, and his unique brand of mischief-making is sorely missed in today’s more somber incarnations of the character.
Doctor Who‘s Sylvester McCoy has teased a potential return in the future.
In the late 1980s, this actor became well-known for portraying the Seventh Doctor. He reprised his role during Jodie Whittaker’s final episode in 2022, and more recently, he appeared in a spin-off series titled “Tales of the TARDIS” last year.
In simpler terms, the latest series included edited stories from several old incarnations of the Doctor, and in a recent interview, Spock (McCoy) suggested there might be opportunities for more future roles.
On the The 50% Doctor Who Podcast, the star faced a query about whether the final episode of Whittaker, titled ‘The Power of the Doctor’, could be seen as wrapping up or drawing a conclusion to the series.
Leaving the book unclosed – that’s a hint of my departure,” McCoy suggested. “However, we went on to produce ‘Tales of the TARDIS’ afterwards. Russell T Davies aimed to refresh everyone’s memory about the Doctors since their return might be imminent.
“He did it for this reason – he might need them in the future. Consequently, our current identity will be acknowledged, not our past one.
Pressed further about a potential return, he added: “Well, that’s up to Russell.”
Right now, “Doctor Who” is getting ready for its upcoming Christmas episode, and Jodie Whittaker will be back as the Doctor in a new audio series titled “The Thirteenth Doctor’s Adventures” produced by Big Finish. Her co-star Mandip Gill (Yasmin Khan) will also be part of this exciting journey.
In a recent conversation with Morning Live, Whittaker expressed her excitement about returning as Thirteen by saying, “It’s just fantastic! The ideal situation: acting as the Doctor without memorizing lines. Playing the Doctor is my absolute favorite role, and I genuinely love it.
On the initial day, I told Mandip, “I’m unsure if I can recall the technique for my voice.” I wondered, “Which voice was that?” To which she replied, “That one,” and I doubted that I could manage it.
A while back, I found out that old-timer McCoy had attempted to land the Doctor’s role way before they finally picked him for it, years ago.
In the United Kingdom, the television series known as “Doctor Who” is aired on BBC One, while it’s shown on Disney+ elsewhere around the world. For those living in the UK, classic episodes of “Doctor Who” can be found on BBC iPlayer.
