Clash Royale is kicking off the new year with Season 79, called Fire and Ice! The January update brings two new Heroes, exciting cosmetics, fresh events, and other great additions. Here’s a look at everything you can expect this season.
Clash Royale Season 79 “Fire and Ice” January 2026 Update Overview
New Heroes: Hero Wizard and Hero Ice Golem
Hero Wizard
Hero Wizard introduces a dynamic new way to play. When he activates Fiery Flight, he gains wings of fire and takes to the air, becoming a powerful flying unit for a limited time. While airborne, he launches fiery tornadoes that damage multiple enemies in an area.

Tornadoes created by the Hero Wizard gather enemy units, allowing him and his teammates to damage several opponents at the same time. This ability makes him a powerful asset on both offense and defense, particularly when dealing with large groups of enemies or crowded battle areas.
Hero Ice Golem
Wizard uses fire, but Golem uses ice. Its special ability, Snowstorm, creates a blizzard around it that hurts and slows down nearby enemies.

This significantly disrupts the enemy’s attack. Enemies trapped in the storm will eventually freeze, allowing your forces to inflict major damage. The Ice Golem Hero will be released on January 19, 2026.
Free and Diamond Pass Royale Overview
Season 79, released with the January update, keeps the Pass Royale system with two reward tracks: a free track for all players and a Diamond Pass with better rewards for those who purchase it, both unlocked as you play.
Players in the lower Arenas (under 15) will keep getting rewards like Gold, Boost Potions, and Lucky Chests with the Free Pass. Players at Arena 15 and higher can unlock cool cosmetic items, unique Heroes, and special seasonal content by upgrading to the Diamond Pass.

I’m so excited! Tier 10 heroes are getting the awesome Tower Skin – and they’re bringing back the Fire and Ice version! Plus, there’s a ton of new emotes this season, all based on the Ice Golem and Wizard heroes. And if that wasn’t enough, we can also unlock some cool new battle banners as we play. It’s gonna be a great season!
In addition to the new cosmetic items, the strength of four cards will be temporarily increased during the Fire and Ice event: Wizard, Tornado, Ice Golem, and Skeletons.
Balance Changes for January 2026 in Clash Royale

Nerfs
Clan Trait
- Hit Speed Buff Duration: Infinity → 5s
The Wizard and Archer Queen used to be incredibly powerful together when the Clan Trait was active. To balance things out, we’ve shortened how long their attack speed boost lasts.
Buffs
Assassin Trait
Critical Chance & Critical Damage:
- 2/4: 25% → 30% (+20%)
- 4/4: 45% → 60% (+33%)
As a big fan of the Assassin class, I was starting to worry they weren’t hitting as hard as they used to, particularly when trying to take out enemies in the back. But these changes are fantastic! They really boost the Assassin’s damage, making them a real threat again. It feels like they’re back to being those risky, but incredibly rewarding, attackers we all love.
P.E.K.K.A Trait
- Heal %: 30% → 60% (+100%)
- Bonus Damage: 30% → 40% (+33%)
The P.E.K.K.A. wasn’t strong enough in battles. We’ve made it much tougher and increased its damage output, so it can now effectively lead the charge as a frontline fighter.
Bandit
- Damage: 80 → 90 (+12.5%)
- Hitpoints: 800 → 900 (+12.5%)
Bandit wasn’t as effective recently, but these improvements bring back her strong, assertive style of play. She’ll be a bigger threat whether she’s attacking the enemy’s vulnerable units or engaging in head-to-head combat.
Witch
- Damage: 120 → 150 (+25%)
- Hitpoints: 750 → 900 (+20%)
The Witch is now much stronger and more durable. This allows her to last longer in fights and makes her skeletons a bigger threat to enemies.
Golden Knight
- Hit Speed: 1.25s → 1s (-25%)
Golden Knight’s attacks are quicker now, letting him deal more damage and regain the speedy, fluid fighting style that once made him a top-tier competitor.
