Clash Royale Season 70 ‘Tale of Thieves’ April 2025 Update and Balance Changes
Story Highlights
- Season 70 brings a new Champion card and Evolution, alongside a refreshed Pass Royale.
- Boss Bandit is here with a strong dash and teleport ability.
- Executioner gets a new Axe Smash ability that deals extra damage and pushes enemies back.
In my current write-up, you’ll observe some differences as we delve into the April 2025 update for ‘Clash Royale’ Season 70 ‘Tale of Thieves’. The changes are quite noticeable with several modifications being introduced to the game this season. For one, the Season Shop seems to be missing, and the Pass Royale has been expanded to offer more levels. Moreover, the events section appears to lack the usual vibrancy.
Nonetheless, every fresh season brings about an exhilarating vibe. The main reasons for this joy are the debut of the new Champion, a commendable evolution, and undeniably, the exciting events. Therefore, let me walk you through all the fascinating additions that Season 70 has brought to Clash Royale.
Clash Royale Season 70 April 2025 Update Overview
New Champion: Boss Bandit
Back in March 2025, there were hints about the Boss Bandit, but after much anticipation, he’s made an appearance, though not exactly as expected. Instead of storming into the game, he’s quietly appearing in the shop with a premium price tag attached. Guess we’ll have to adjust our plans accordingly.

As the 8th Titleholder, Boss Bandit earned a swift move similar to Common Outlaw Bandit, coupled with a unique skill known as the Getaway Grenade. This ability becomes active when her health drops significantly, granting her a momentary invisibility and enabling her to reappear at her original location.
Here’s an interesting fact: She requires 6 Elixir to deploy, making her the most expensive Champion we’ve encountered thus far. Her health is impressive, exceeding 2800 HP, which means she’s quite durable or “tanky.” I even watched a gameplay video where she survived after both Rocket and Lightning were used against her, demonstrating her robustness as a card.
New Evolution: Executioner
Moving forward, let’s discuss the character known as Evolutionary Executioner. He’s the sole evolution for this season and marks the fourth overall this year. His base stats remain unaltered, but his distinctive feature is the transformation of his Axe Smash ability. This special ability triggers only when he assaults enemies within a 3.5 tile proximity.
It turns out that all those bicep curls were well worth it! 💪

When this occurs, his axe doubles the damage and pushes opponents back by about 2 tiles, which is slightly beyond what a Rocket or Giant Snowball does. Yet, this ability becomes active as he leaves, not upon returning. You merely require a single evolution cycle to transform him.
Free and Diamond Pass Royale details
The alterations seen following the closure of the season store can be observed in the Pass Royale too. Modifications have been made to both the free and premium rewards, as detailed in the table provided.

It’s clear that the overall tally of tiers has risen from 60 to 90. There have been quite a few updates. The most significant change is that we now receive only two Evolution Shards, which seems like a substantial reduction, given that the previous Evolution Shards are no longer obtainable in the Season Shop.
For the remaining perks, they follow a familiar pattern, much like what we’ve encountered previously. The Diamond Pass, however, does not appear to offer significant improvements on the whole, except for those who spend money getting their hands on Evolution Shards, which might provide an advantage in winning scenarios.
With this latest update, a brand new Tower Skin, known as the “Royal Delivery Tower Skin,” is now available for the Pass Royale. This skin can be unlocked once you reach Tier 90 in the Premium Tier of the Pass Royale, a significant increase from its previous location at Tier 56, following the March update.
