Supercell has released a major update for Clash Royale, called Merge Tactics Season 9, which significantly changes the game’s characters and strategy. The update includes a new Ruler character, Ruler Quests, fresh equipment, improvements to existing troops, adjusted character traits, and a completely redesigned battle system.
The new season of Merge Tactics begins on May 27th and will last until July 13, 2026. Here’s a look at what’s new and what you can expect in Season 9.
Clash Royale Merge Tactics Season 9 Update explained
New Ruler: Tomb Queen
Season 9 adds a new Ruler called Tomb Queen, who specializes in Undead units. Her unique ability, Regal Revival, creates a Tombstone at the beginning of each battle.
The Tombstone regularly creates skeletons, and when it’s defeated, the Tomb Queen appears. It also contributes to the Undead characteristic and becomes stronger by spawning more skeletons in battle.
Just like other Rulers, Tomb Queen has a special reward track you can progress through to earn items. This season’s cosmetic rewards include the Fury Queen, Noir Queen, and Harrowing Haunt confetti effect. You’ll also be able to purchase the Mummy Queen and Hieroglyphic Heroism cosmetics in the Ruler Cosmetic Shop.
As for the returning Ruler, we have Echo Sage coming back with this season.
Ruler Quests arrive in Merge Tactics
I’m so excited about the new Ruler Quests this season! Basically, each Ruler now has their own little challenges during battles. If we complete them – things like winning rounds fast, summoning troops, or using our Ruler’s special abilities – we get these awesome Quest Orbs. It’s like extra goals to work towards during a match, and they change depending on how the battle’s going!

New Equipment
Season 9 also expands the equipment system with several new additions.

We also see trait-granting equipment this time around.
New Troops and Reworks
Season 9 refreshes the troop pool once again, introducing new faces while reworking older ones.

Returning and Reworked Troops

We’ve made a big change to how troops work: each one now has just one special ability, instead of several. Also, you’ll find 25 troops available in regular battles, and another 9 that can only be found in Quest Orbs.
New Traits and Trait Reworks
Season 9 introduces two completely new Traits.

Several older Traits have also been reworked.

The move toward single-trait troops makes these bonuses much more impactful than before.
Season 9 Modifiers
Season 9 also adds one of the largest modifier batches yet.
