
Merge Tactics is a game mode in Clash Royale where you build a team of troops each round. You then place them on the battlefield and combine (merge) them to make them more powerful, with the goal of defeating your opponents.
This game mode is constantly being updated and changed, offering a different experience than standard modes like Trophy Road and Ranked. Everything from available troops and special modifiers to character traits and core gameplay is regularly tweaked with each new update. Because it’s so dynamic, it’s important to stay informed about the monthly seasonal changes.
The January season will start on January 5th, 2026, and will run for a month, finishing just before the February season begins.

Next month will bring a new Ruler character, along with fresh skins and some updated gameplay modifiers.
Echo Sage Lands in Merge Tactics With New Skins

Introducing Echo Sage, a new Ruler character ready to take the Arena by storm! Their special ability, ‘Striking Clone,’ summons a powerful unit called The Echo. The Echo charges up and then eliminates the closest enemy or enemies, and it gets even stronger with each fight.
You can unlock Echo Sage once you’ve collected 650 Starsteel on the League Road during the January 2026 season.
You can also unlock different looks for Echo Sage in a few ways, like earning rewards on the Ruler track or buying them in the Skins Shop. These include the Might Triad (with a confetti effect), Starborn Sage, and Sunlight Sage skins.
January Season Brings In Novel Modifiers

With each new season, we’re updating the game’s modifiers. These are special rules that randomly change at the beginning of every game, and they can really shake things up in Merge Tactics.
The new modifiers for the January 2026 season are as follows:
| Modifier | Description |
| Damage Tile (Bronze III) | Troops placed on this tile enter combat at 50% HP and deal bonus damage. |
| Clone Tile (Silver II) | Troops placed on this tile will be cloned, and the duplicate will have 70% of the original’s HP. |
| Immune Tile (Gold I) | The troop on this tile becomes indestructible for a minimum of 5 seconds of combat. |
| Jump Tile (Gold III) | Troops placed here jump into enemy territory at the start of a battle. |
Now, building upgrades will give you a 2-Star building in Round 3, rather than a 1-Star building at the beginning of Round 1.
