Okay, so everyone’s been talking about how we level up, collect Heroes, deal with duplicate cards, and get rewards in Clash Royale lately. Well, it looks like Supercell is planning some huge changes for 2026! Some of them are hitting the game on February 23rd, and the rest will roll out with the March 2026 update and keep coming after that. Let’s dive into what’s all changing, shall we?
All the details on the Clash Royale update rolling out on February 23, 2026
No more Max Level duplicate cards
It’s really annoying to get duplicate cards, particularly after you’ve already fully upgraded them, and this is especially common around level 16. Getting a reward that you can’t actually use has been a problem for a while now.
Beginning February 23rd, how you receive fully leveled cards will change. If you have less than 60 max-level cards, you won’t get any more duplicates. If you already have 60 or more, the chance of getting another max-level card will be much lower – reduced by 90%.
Heroes unlock earlier at Arena 5
Players can now unlock Hero access much earlier in the game – at Arena 5 instead of later on. This change makes the beginning of the game more engaging, as you won’t have to spend a lot of time grinding before you can start using Heroes, which will definitely change how battles play out.
What’s coming to Clash Royale in the March 2026 update and beyond
Special Deck Slots reduction
As a player, I’m really noticing the changes to the deckbuilding! They’ve trimmed down the number of special card slots from four to three. Now, we’ll have one slot specifically for Evolution cards, one for Heroes, and then a third ‘Wild’ slot that can hold either a Hero or an Evolution. This applies to everything – Trophy Road, Ranked matches, and even Challenges. It definitely changes how you build your decks, forcing you to make some tough choices!
This change is a welcome one. The abundance of Evos and Heroes cards created a chaotic environment and overshadowed the unique qualities of older cards. Limiting them to just three types should streamline gameplay and make matches more focused, though some powerful card abilities will likely still cause problems.
No random Hero Unlocks
One of the most significant changes in this update is how you unlock Heroes. We’ve removed the random element, so you’ll no longer have to rely on luck. Instead, you’ll collect Hero Fragments and use them to specifically choose the Hero you want.
We’re also making a small update to the Free Pass. Starting in March 2026, you’ll receive 75 Hero Fragments each season. And that’s not all – there are even more free rewards coming!
Players who’ve unlocked the Arena 5 Hero will receive 200 Hero Fragments. These will be available to claim for three months, starting in mid-March.
New Evolution and Content Rotation
Great news! We’re getting a new Evolution in April, and while there won’t be one in May, things are changing. After a long wait, the game will move beyond just releasing new Heroes. Starting in June, updates will regularly include a mix of Heroes, Evolutions, and new cards.
They’ve also addressed feedback about the 5-Star Lucky Chest, acknowledging it hasn’t been as rewarding as players would like. While specific changes aren’t available yet, they’ve confirmed they are working on improvements.
