Clash Royale Hero Cards Guide: Overview, List of Heroes, How to unlock, and more

As a huge Clash Royale fan, I’m so excited for the December 2025 update! It sounds like a game-changer, especially with Level 16 being added. But what really has me hyped are the Hero Cards. They’re kind of like Champions, but the developers are taking that idea and making it even more interesting and unique – I can’t wait to see how they play!

In this article, I’ll cover everything we currently know about the game’s Heroes – how they function, what they can do, how to unlock them, and my initial thoughts based on my experience so far.

Understanding Heroes in Clash Royale

Heroes are upgraded versions of familiar troops in Clash Royale, but they’re unique with their own look and special abilities. While they appear as enhanced versions of existing cards, they actually play more like powerful, game-changing cards that allow for new strategies and team combinations.

Heroes are different from Champions: while Champions return to the fight after being defeated, Heroes act like regular troops but have a special ability. This ability is similar to those Champions have, but it’s even more powerful and has an immediate effect. Each Hero also has a specific job in battle, a unique style, and an ability that activates right when you use it.

Certain powers can only be used once during a game, while others become more powerful the longer they remain active. What’s unique about Heroes is that they take up the same spaces in your deck as Champions. This forces you to decide between including Heroes or Champions to fill your limited ability slots.

You’ll unlock your first Hero slot when you reach Arena 15, and a second one at Arena 25. Don’t worry, the game will automatically move any Champions you were already using into these new slots after the update.

List of Hero Cards in Clash Royale

Hero Mini P.E.K.K.A

  • Elixir Cost: 4
  • Special Ability: Breakfast Boost

Like the Super PEKKA, this Hero also gains power over time by collecting pancakes. These pancakes act as level boosts – each one increases the Hero’s level by one, and it can stack up to five pancakes for a temporary five-level boost.

Hero Musketeer

  • Elixir Cost: 4
  • Special Ability: Trusty Turret

The Hero Musketeer can place a small, automatic turret in front of her. When deployed, it instantly damages enemies in a small area, and then continues to attack both flying and ground units. Think of it as a miniature defensive structure.

Hero Knight

  • Elixir Cost: 3
  • Special Ability: Triumphant Taunt

Hero Knight is a tough defender. When you use his special ability, he draws the attention of all nearby enemies – even the enemy towers – forcing them to attack him instead of your other troops. He has a temporary shield that enemies need to destroy first before they can actually damage him.

Hero Giant

  • Elixir Cost: 5
  • Special Ability: Heroic Hurl

Hero Giant’s ability is arguably the most fun to watch. His ‘Heroic Hurl’ lets him grab the enemy troop with the most health within his reach and toss it across the battlefield to the other side. This throw not only deals damage upon impact but also briefly stuns the target. It even works on powerful troops like the Evo Mega Knight!

How to unlock Heroes in Clash Royale

Heroes aren’t obtained like regular cards. You collect 200 Hero Fragments to randomly summon one. You can find these fragments in new Hero Boxes, through event rewards, and as part of Pass Royale – these can either unlock a Hero directly or help you collect fragments faster.

Seriously, you HAVE to check out the December Crown Chase event! It’s amazing because it guarantees you’ll get a free Hero. And if you happen to pull a Hero I already have, no worries – I get cards for them plus 60 extra fragments as a bonus, which is awesome for leveling them up!
