Clash Royale Chaos Mode: Guide on How to Play and the complete list of Modifiers

Clash Royale has found success with its new game modes, and Chaos Mode is a particularly innovative addition. Launched in Season 81, this temporary mode dramatically alters gameplay by giving cards special boosts during matches.

Chaos Mode in Clash Royale shakes up gameplay by letting you upgrade your cards during a match, giving them unexpected and powerful abilities. If you’re curious about how it works, this guide will walk you through everything – how to play, the different modifiers available, and some helpful tips and tricks to get you started.

How Chaos Mode works in Clash Royale

Chaos Mode plays much like regular Clash Royale: you create a deck of eight cards and fight in the arena. But there’s a twist! Everyone uses cards from a limited selection of just 50, and all cards are limited to Level 11. This ensures that all players have a fair and balanced experience.

The gameplay takes an interesting turn during battles. The game will occasionally pause, giving you a choice between two upgrades. Each upgrade permanently improves one of your cards, making it stronger for the remainder of the match.

Upgrade options become available about every 45 seconds, so players typically get four upgrades in a standard match, and potentially a fifth during overtime. Once you choose an upgrade for a card, you can’t upgrade that same card again.

Tips and Tricks to remember in Clash Royale’s Chaos Mode

Chaos Mode can be a bit crazy when you first start playing, with a lot going on at the same time. The way cards work changes constantly, so games can turn around quickly. These tips will help you learn the mode and start winning more often.

1. Build decks with strong modifier potential

Because cards can become much more powerful with upgrades, it’s a good idea to use cards that really shine when they’re improved. Cards like the Electro Wizard, Goblin Demolisher, Dart Goblin, Vines, and Golem can become incredibly strong, depending on the specific upgrade they receive.

2. Don’t rush your first modifier choice

Right away at the beginning of the game, you’ll be able to choose your first upgrade. Be sure to read both options carefully before deciding. The upgrade that seems easiest isn’t always the worst – it might actually help you more as the game goes on.

3. Pay attention to your opponent’s modifiers

During battle, you can always check what upgrades your opponent has chosen. Simply click the icon below their name if you’re having trouble spotting them. Knowing this is key to winning! For instance, if they’re using a boosted Electro Wizard or have endless vines, you’ll need to adjust your strategy and how you play your cards to effectively counter them.

4. Focus on modifiers that create pressure

Some card upgrades just boost a troop’s power, but others drastically alter how the card functions. The most effective upgrades generally put consistent pressure on your opponent, such as by creating additional troops, increasing attack range, or adding area-of-effect damage.

5. Save your stronger Epic modifier cards

A common mistake players make – and I made when I first started – is choosing the wrong upgrade for a card. Certain Epic upgrades are really powerful, so it’s smart to focus on getting those whenever possible.

Okay, so with The Log, you really want all three good perks, right? But if I see the ‘Long Range’ perk as a Rare option, I instantly know that means I can’t get the ‘Lumberjack’ perk on that same roll, because you only get one rare perk total. In that situation, I always skip it and hope The Log comes around again so I can try for the perks I actually want.

Now that you understand Chaos Mode and how modifiers work, let’s get to the best decks to use! Here’s my guide to the top decks for Clash Royale’s Chaos Mode.
