As of right now, Town Hall 18 is the highest level you can reach in Clash of Clans. It unlocks the most powerful upgrades, cutting-edge defenses, and opens up a wide range of strategies. Town Hall 18 is different from previous levels with changes like removing the Town Hall’s built-in weapon and adding the Guardian System, so you’ll need to carefully balance your attacks, defenses, and how quickly you progress.
This Clash of Clans guide covers everything you need to succeed at Town Hall 18, including how to prioritize upgrades, build strong bases for both war and resource gathering, and master effective attack strategies.
Upgrading Town Hall to Level 18
Okay, so getting to Town Hall 18 is a big deal, just like all the other major upgrades. You really want to make sure your defenses and heroes are pretty maxed out first. But honestly, TH18 is different than anything we’ve seen before. The biggest change? The Town Hall doesn’t attack anymore! It’s totally lost its weapon function, which is kind of wild.

This building no longer defends your base; its defensive capabilities have been removed and its attack power has been shifted to the new Guardian System. Reaching Town Hall 18 requires a maxed-out Town Hall 17 and costs 25 million Gold, taking 14 days to complete.
After you finish building TH18, your base will have more health, increased storage space, and access to the newest defenses, improvements, and gameplay features. You’ll need to focus on strategically placing your Guardians to protect your base, instead of relying on the Town Hall itself – we’ll cover exactly how to do this later in this guide.
Clash of Clans Town Hall 18 Guide: Guide to upgrade priorities
I usually provide a step-by-step guide for upgrades, but it doesn’t seem necessary this time. At Town Hall 18, there isn’t a single ‘right’ way to upgrade. The game offers a lot of flexibility now, so you should upgrade things based on your own preferences and play style.
It’s generally a good idea to focus on upgrading your offensive buildings first, so you can keep up with stronger attacks. Prioritizing the Hero Hall, Laboratory, Clan Castle, and Spell Factory early on will help you gather resources and perform well in battles. After that, you can gradually improve important defenses like the Revenge Tower, Super Wizard Towers, and other core defensive structures, without needing to max them out right away.
Don’t feel like you need to upgrade everything perfectly or in a specific order. You can gradually improve new defenses, upgrade heroes whenever you have enough resources, and work on walls or storage buildings at your own pace.
Town Hall 18: New Unlocked Buildings, Levels, and More
As a huge fan, I’m so excited about Town Hall 18! We’re getting some awesome new stuff to build. Specifically, we unlock one Revenge Tower and one Crafting Station as totally new defenses. Plus, we can merge to get two Super Wizard Towers, which are going to be incredible! It’s a big upgrade for our bases.
Revenge Tower
The Revenge Tower becomes available at Town Hall 18 and is currently considered one of the most powerful defenses in the game. Unlike other defenses, it doesn’t attack immediately. Instead, it gains strength as the enemy destroys buildings, eventually becoming a major threat.

As it develops, this unit becomes quicker and more powerful. When fully operational, its attacks can ricochet between enemies, dealing significant damage to both ground and aerial forces. To maximize its effectiveness, it’s best to position it further inside the enemy base during an attack, as its power increases over time.
| Level | Max DPS | Damage (Primary) | Damage (Secondary) | Damage (Tertiary) | Hitpoints | Cost (Dark Elixir) | Upgrade Time |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 750 | 225 | 135 | 81 | 5,800 | 430,000 | 13 days |
| 2 | 833 | 250 | 150 | 90 | 6,200 | 460,000 | 14 days |
Crafting Station
The Crafting Station is a cool new feature in Town Hall 18 because it lets you build different defenses as needed. Instead of being limited to one type, you can choose between options like the Hero Bell, Bomb Hive, or Light Beam to best protect your base.

Each defense you build has unique strengths, and you can improve things like its attack power or how long it lasts. Since the available blueprints change every few months, the Crafting Station keeps base building interesting and prevents it from becoming too predictable at Town Hall 18.
Super Wizard Tower
Okay, so the Super Wizard Tower is seriously powerful. You make it by combining two regular Wizard Towers that are both level 17. Once you do that, though, it’s permanent – you can’t split it back up. What’s really cool is instead of just hitting one enemy with a splash, it shoots out chain lightning that bounces between a bunch of them. That makes it amazing for taking out groups of enemies – like when someone sends a ton of troops at once!

Super Wizard Towers pack more punch and have a slightly longer range than standard Wizard Towers. At Town Hall 18, they’re most effective as a central part of your base’s defense, protecting against both aerial and ground attacks in both Clan War bases and resource farming layouts.
Guardians
Town Hall 18 significantly changes base defense. Instead of attacking itself, the Town Hall is now protected by a single Guardian you select. The Guardian you choose will determine how well your base holds up against enemy attacks.

You choose Guardians from the Town Hall screen, and they can be upgraded using a builder. Importantly, even while a Guardian is being upgraded, it will still participate in defending your base during Wars and Ranked Battles, ensuring you’re always protected.
Guardians can target both ground and air units, inflict area-of-effect damage, and create special effects upon destruction. Observing their movement patterns and patrol routes around the Town Hall is extremely helpful when designing your base and setting traps.
Best CoC Town Hall 18 best attack strategies
Town Hall 18 lets you use a variety of attack strategies – combining air, ground, and hybrid approaches – to suit the base you’re facing and what you want to achieve. When attacking in wars, many players have success with Dragon armies boosted by Totem Spells, Meteor Golem pushes led by a Queen Walk, or armies built around Super Yetis.
Okay, so when I’m trying to farm resources, I usually switch to easier base designs. Honestly, Sneaky Goblins are still my go-to – they’re super safe and bring in a ton of loot. A lot of people also use Mass Valkyries with Earthquake Spells to quickly boost their progress and league bonuses. If I’m feeling an air attack, I’ll go with an Air Trio – Dragon Riders, Balloons, and Electro Dragons work really well together for farming.
I’ve created a detailed guide to Town Hall 18 attack strategies. It walks you through each army step-by-step and explains when to use them, so be sure to check it out!
