Clash of Clans Town Hall 17 Guide: Upgrade priorities, Best bases, Attack strategies, and more

As a seasoned Clash of Clans player with years of experience under my belt, I can confidently say that this guide is a goldmine for any Town Hall 17 (TH17) player out there. From the strategic attack strategies to the best base designs, it’s all here!

The latest update for the Town Hall, specifically Town Hall 17, has arrived in Clash of Clans! This new level offers a plethora of changes, and there’s plenty to talk about. With this upgrade, you’ll find various enhancements, access to new buildings and defenses, and not to mention, the introduction of a fresh troop and spell will open up new avenues for attack strategies in Clash of Clans. To guide you through this exciting journey, I’ve prepared an extensive Town Hall 17 guide that includes priority upgrades, optimal base designs, effective attacking tactics, and much more to ensure a smoother progression in Clash of Clans.

Upgrading Town Hall to Level 17

Similar to all other Town Hall enhancements, things are challenging at the peak Town Hall level, which means you should prioritize and fully upgrade your defenses before proceeding. However, it’s worth noting that upgrading to Town Hall 17 introduces a significant shift because the Eagle Artillery will be incorporated into the Town Hall itself, eliminating the standalone defense.

To initiate this permanent change, you’ll need to meet two prerequisites: a Town Hall at Level 16 and an Eagle Artillery stationed at Level 7. The transformation comes with a hefty price tag of 20 million Gold and a duration of 15 days for completion. In the subsequent parts of this guide, I’ll elaborate on the Inferno Artillery, which serves as the new Town Hall defense system.

Town Hall 17: New Unlocked Buildings, Levels, and More

With the construction of Town Hall level 17, you’ll only gain access to two new buildings. The rest will be upgrades, along with some additional items such as an Archer Tower, two merged defenses, and a trap. However, this may not seem particularly impressive.

Inferno Artillery

At level 17, the Town Hall defense unit is called the Inferno Artillery. This formidable defense is born from the fusion of the Eagle Artillery and the Town Hall. Once you reach Town Hall level 17, this combination becomes permanent. Upon closer examination, its gameplay reveals a blend of characteristics from the Lava Launcher, Multi-Archer Tower, and Capital Hall. What makes it even more intimidating is that it has no blind spots.

The Inferno Artillery shoots four fireballs at once, targeting different enemies. These fireballs do moderate damage, but they leave behind burning areas that damage any enemies standing in them. To upgrade to Town Hall 17, you need to have completed all merged defenses and upgraded the Eagle Artillery to level 7.

  • Number of Targets: 4
  • Effect Duration: 6.8 seconds
  • Max Damage per Second: 75
  • Range: 12 tiles

New Defense: Firesplitter

Although this might not cover the void left behind by the Eagle Artillery, Firesplitter is an awesome new defense. It excels in crowd control by firing molten iron balls that can damage both ground and air units.

As a gamer, I’d say: The Firespitter unleashes clusters of 20 projectiles, slightly scattered, making it a force to be reckoned with when taking down groups of enemies up close. However, the scatter effect means it may lack precision at longer ranges. Interestingly, its shots can potentially strike two enemies in quick succession.

  • Range: 16 tiles
  • Attack Speed: 0.0625 seconds
  • Time Between Bursts: 1 second
  • Shots Per Burst: 20 shots
  • Damage Type: Multiple targets

New Trap: Giga Bomb

With the November 2024 update, a fresh addition to join CoC (Clash of Clans) is the Giga Bomb, which will be accessible at Town Hall level 17. Only one can be unlocked initially. This unique trap is designed as a self-contained device, resembling a compact red explosive on wheels, and its fuse illuminates when activated. Unlike conventional traps, the Giga Bomb remains visible at all times, requiring strategic placement during both attacks and defenses to ensure optimal effectiveness.

Regarding its application, the Giga Bomb is designed to inflict damage over an extensive area and impacts both land and air-based military assets. A notable characteristic of the Giga Bomb is its ‘knockback’ ability, which can forcefully move or eject specific troops, thereby disrupting their targeting processes.

Clash of Clans Town Hall 17 Guide: Guide to upgrade priorities

Now that TH17 is accessible in CoC, players have likely accumulated enough resources for improvements. To help you optimize these resources, let’s explore my upgrade priority guide.

1. Hero Hall

Because the latest update includes the introduction of Hero Hall, it’s crucial that you promptly advance this feature to its highest level, which is 11. This enhancement is vital as it enables you to initiate the progression of your five Heroes up to their maximum levels. If your town hall level is TH7 or higher with an empty hero slot, all you need to do is perform one upgrade for the Hero Hall once you reach TH17 in Clash of Clans.

The maximum levels attainable for your heroes are:

  • Barbarian King: Level 100
  • Archer Queen: Level 100
  • Minion Prince: Level 70
  • Grand Warden: Level 75
  • Royal Champion: Level 50

2. Barracks and Spell Factory

As I pen this down, there will be extra upgrade tiers available due to the introduction of a fresh Troop and a spell for unlocking. Many players at Town Hall levels 15 and 16 can access these upgrades before reaching TH17. However, if you prefer diving straight into the latest Town Hall in Clash of Clans and then focusing on upgrades, this should be another task to add to your priority list. These newly added items may not provide significant assistance initially, but they will offer an opportunity to experiment with new troop combinations.

3. Defenses

From my perspective, TH17 seems to offer a fine blend of offense and defense. Therefore, reinforcing your defensive structures becomes crucial, given the arrival of two formidable new defense units: the Firespitter and Inferno Artillery.

As a gamer, I prioritize setting up Merged Defenses and Firesplitters while I take my time upgrading the Town Hall. Once those are in place, I focus on leveling up other freshly added defenses. Don’t forget to keep a builder available for immediate placement of traps like the Giga Bomb, Black Mine, and Giant Bomb.

4. Laboratory

The Lab is essential in enhancing both your troops and spells, ensuring your army remains robust enough to tackle more challenging defenses at this stage. When choosing what to enhance first, it’s beneficial to concentrate on the strategy you prefer – whether you lean towards resource gathering or combat. Regardless of your choice, always prioritize upgrades that align with your chosen approach.

Best CoC Town Hall 17 best attack strategies

1. Dragon Smash

I’m sorry for the less-than-creative title I chose, but this strategy truly demolishes all defenses. It consists of powerful Dragons, a horde of Balloons, and a few Rage and Clone spells to amplify the attack. The positioning of your spells is crucial; you’ll need to use them strategically, timing them correctly to maximize your advantage during the assault, ensuring your heroes won’t be squandered.

You might want to give the HyDra version a shot too, where Dragon Riders and Dragons collaborate, making for an enjoyable team in Town Hall 13/14. The setup stays the same – just swap out the Barbarian King with a Minion Prince, and clear any stragglers to create a pathway instead.

2. Yetis and Throwers

Instead of going for a soft approach, let’s opt for a powerful ground assault. We’ll employ Yetis and Throwers along with small tanks such as Ice Golems. Begin by placing the Ice Golems and a line of Yetis across the frontline. Utilize your King, Queen, Warden, and a Log Launcher to breach their defenses. Keep your Log Launcher secure using the Warden’s abilities, and target critical defensive structures like the Monolith or Ricochet Cannon with its freezing effect.

data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==

In this approach, focus on managing your spells effectively. This means knowing when to unleash Rage, Freeze, and Jump spells to keep up the pace during gameplay. The Revive spell comes in handy since it aids in conserving hero abilities and continuously pushing forward offensively.

3. Root ‘n Throwers

As a passionate gamer, I stumbled upon an exceptional strategy involving “Throwers,” “Root Riders,” and “Revive Spells.” Giving it a shot, I can confirm that this is an incredibly powerful assault. The Root Riders serve as guides for your primary troops, maneuvering them through the enemy base, while the Throwers offer support from the rear. Timing is crucial here, so make sure to safeguard the Throwers while the Root Riders pave the way for the rest of the army.

data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==

To minimize substantial harm to your army, employ the Grand Warden‘s ability promptly. Revive Spells are integral to this tactic, as they offer a second chance for characters such as the King or Royal Champion. Direct your Revive Spells towards areas where they will have the most impact, like reviving the Royal Champion to tackle defenses while others divert their attention.
