Clash of Clans releases major matchmaking update for casual and ranked

Monday blues? Not for Clash of Clans players! A huge new update just dropped for the popular strategy game, bringing major changes to how players are matched, the return of a much-requested feature – the revenge button – and improvements to ranked battles.

As you may know, the Revenge Button is back, and we have some extra information about how it works. If someone attacks you while your Magic Shield is active, you’ll have 12 hours to retaliate against a saved version of their village. You’re guaranteed to recover at least the gold and loot you lost, and you might even earn extra!

Regular skirmishes have been improved as well. You can now fight as often as you like without any limits. Plus, a new Magic Shield will automatically protect your items if an enemy steals 30% or more of your loot in a single fight.

Absolutely barbaric

Given it’s been more than ten years since Clash of Clans was originally released, it’s been good to see the fundamentals getting an update. And this latest matchmaking makeover is going to be more than welcome for those of you who still grind through Clash of Clans all these years later.

And there’s even more good news! They’re updating ranked battles too, which I’m really excited about. Basically, each week will feel like a new tournament where we have a specific number of attacks and defenses to complete. It’s a lot like the Legend League, and the bonus you get from your rank in those leagues will *also* apply to normal battles now! Honestly, despite a few little problems with the update launch, it all looks like a really great set of changes.
