Clash of Clans Crafted Defenses Guide: Complete list, how they work, and more details

In June of 2025, within the game Clash of Clans, there was an update that introduced “Crafted Defenses“. These defenses are now accessible at Town Hall level 17, offering an additional layer of protection to your base. They come in various forms and as their number grows, here’s a comprehensive guide detailing their functionality, characteristics, and more.

What are Crafted Defenses in Clash of Clans

In your Home Village, there’s a unique structure called Crafted Defenses that you can customize according to your strategy. You’ll gain access to this feature at Town Hall level 17. These defenses are constructed using the Crafting Station, a free, instantly built structure with dimensions 3×3 and no construction time.

Once positioned, you can swiftly transition between three distinct defense modes at your convenience using the Cycle Defense button. Each Self-Made Defense is adjustable by enhancing specific components such as hitpoints, damage per shot, attack cool-down, and various other attributes.

Or in a more casual tone:

Once set up, you can quickly flip through three special defense modes using the Cycle Defense button whenever you like. You can tailor your Homemade Defense by boosting individual features like hitpoints, damage per shot, attack cool-down, and numerous other aspects.

In this system, each stat begins at a base level of 1 and has the potential to reach level 10. The total level of a Crafted Defense is determined by adding up the levels of its upgraded modules, with the maximum level being 30. Throughout a Crafting Phase, which typically spans about three months, only one set of defenses can be utilized at a time.

When the phase concludes, existing defensive structures get dismantled and fresh ones are built, beginning anew at level 1. You may enhance one module per defense sequentially, or if you possess sufficient builders, you can upgrade all three defense modules concurrently.

List of Crafted Defenses in Clash of Clans

At present, you’ll find three unique defensive structures in the game: the Hook Tower, the Flame Spinner, and the Crusher Mortar.

1. Hook Tower

As a gamer, I’d describe the Hook Tower like this: “I’m a defensive powerhouse that snatches units, whether airborne or ground-bound, from afar, within a range of 4 to 15 tiles. However, Siege Machines are smart enough to dodge my grasp. Once I’ve got ’em, I give them a good stun for up to 3.6 seconds at max level. The best part? I don’t deal any damage myself! Instead, I lure them into zones where they’ll take the brunt of the damage.

2. Flame Spinner

The Flame Spinner’s structure suggests it functions like a flamethrower for defense, dishing out continuous, splash damage in clusters (28 shots per cycle). It has a reach of 8 tiles and can target both airborne and ground-based units. Although its DPS might appear impressive on paper, the real effectiveness comes from its burst firing pattern and total number of shots it unleashes.

3. Crusher Mortar

Functions as an enhanced grenade launcher that hurls spiked projectiles capable of bouncing up to three times, inflicting damage in a straight line while also causing splash harm within its effective range. It has a range of 2.5 to 9 tiles, with the splash effect extending even into its blind spot area. The most beneficial upgrades are increased area damage and damage per second to enhance its ability to manage large groups of enemies.
