- Clash of Clans clarified how Magic Items work on the Gold Pass reward track following confusions.
- Books, Hammers, and Rings still require claiming and using through the normal inventory.
- The direct-use option will not appear if your Magic Item storage is already full.
Clash of Clans has explained how Magic Items earned through the Gold Pass function, following some confusion caused by a new feature released in the March 2026 update.
The Gold Pass received a big update with a completely new look and feel. It now includes daily challenges, reward choices, a new way to store your Gold called the Hoggy Bank (replacing the old Season Bank), and a helpful new character named the Prospector.
Only “no-target” items like Runes and Potions can be used directly from the track
The latest update included a convenient new feature: you can now use or sell certain Magic Items directly from the Gold Pass, without needing to claim them first. Unfortunately, Supercell didn’t explain this change very well at launch, so many players initially thought it applied to all Magic Items.

Supercell explained how the new Gold Pass feature for Magic Items works. It only applies to Magic Items that affect your entire village automatically – you don’t need to select a specific building or troop for these items to work.
Items like Runes, Boost Potions, Super Potions, and Pet Potions are now easier to use – you can get them directly from the Gold Pass and activate them right away. Not all magical items work this way, though.
Magic Items like Books, Hammers, and Rings now need you to choose a specific building, troop, or upgrade to apply their effects. You’ll still need to claim these items first, and then use them from your inventory as you did before.
Some players were puzzled by how Magic Item storage works. If you already have the maximum number of a specific Magic Item, you won’t be able to claim another one directly from the Gold Pass. You’ll need to free up space in your inventory first before you can add it.
Supercell confirms this behavior is by design, but acknowledges they didn’t clearly communicate the change in the recent update, causing player confusion.
