The psychological thriller Unsane, featuring Claire Foy and Matt Damon, is now available on Prime Video in the UK. It was previously accessible through Rakuten TV and Plex.
So, I recently checked out this movie from 2018, directed by Steven Soderbergh, and it’s really good. Claire Foy, who you might know from The Crown, plays Sawyer Valentini, a woman who basically has to uproot her life and leave Boston because she thinks someone is following her. It’s a pretty tense setup!
Terrified for her safety, she’s lured into signing an agreement to stay at a questionable psychiatric hospital, which is actually a front for a large insurance fraud. Once she discovers her stalker is an employee there, she’s resolved to escape, no matter the cost.

The psychological thriller stars Claire Foy and Matt Damon, who appears briefly as a detective. Juno Temple, Joshua Leonard, Jay Pharoah, and Aimee Mullins also join the cast.
When it came out, Unsane earned over $14 million at the box office – a significant profit considering it only cost around $1.5 million to make. A big reason for the low cost was that the entire movie was filmed on an iPhone 7 Plus.

Critics have generally given the film positive reviews. Currently, 80% of reviews on Rotten Tomatoes are positive, based on 234 critics. Many reviewers specifically praised the director, Steven Soderbergh, and the lead actress’s performance.
Sight & Sound praised the film, calling it a clever horror movie made with an iPhone. They noted its dark visual style, suggesting it might be a result of the iPhone’s technology, but that this darkness actually enhanced the film’s unsettling themes.
According to Paste Magazine, the psychological thriller immediately creates a disturbing and unsettling feeling through its unusual, distorted visual style.

I read a review in The Wrap that really hit home. They said the movie was super tense and surprisingly relevant, especially about the unwanted attention women get from guys and how awful it can be when they try to say something about it. It really stuck with me.
If you’re not a fan of psychological thrillers with a bit of horror, Prime Video has lots of other options. They’ve recently added Cillian Murphy’s war movie, Anthropoid, and Timothy Spall’s historical drama, Nicholas Nickleby.
Unsane is available to stream on Prime Video, Rakuten and Plex.
The latest issue of Living Legends, a vibrant, full-colour 100-page magazine celebrating Taylor Swift, is now available! You can purchase it at newsagents or online for only £8.99.
