Círdan from The Rings of Power and Kevan Lannister from Game of Thrones were romantic partners for decades
As a dedicated fan and admirer of the intricate tapestry of fantasy storytelling, I eagerly await each new installment that brings us closer to the enchanting world of Middle-earth. The second season of Amazon’s “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” has arrived on Prime Video, and as we delve into fresh landscapes and encounter captivating new characters, I find myself particularly excited about the arrival of Círdan, an ancient elf shipwright.
In a thrilling return, “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” has commenced its second season on Amazon Prime Video. Over the course of the opening three episodes, viewers are transported to fresh locales and introduced to intriguing new figures. Among these characters is Círdan, an accomplished shipwright who boasts a venerable age among Middle-earth’s elven population, and these episodes can be streamed immediately!
In another interpretation, you might find that Círdan is portrayed by the British actor Ben Daniels, who gained fame for his captivating performance as the flamboyant vampire Santiago in AMC’s “Interview With The Vampire.” Given his exceptional acting skills demonstrated in that role, I am eagerly anticipating his appearance on “The Rings of Power.”
Daniels’ personal life is intriguing as well, since it shares connections with another popular fantasy series. English actor Ian Gelder portrayed Tywin Lannister’s younger brother Keven for quite some time on HBO’s Game of Thrones. Interestingly, Gelder and Daniels were romantic partners off-screen.
In 1993, Daniels and Gelder crossed paths during a London stage performance of “Entertaining Mr Sloane” by Joe Ortan. Their bond lasted for an impressive 34 years until this year when Gelder passed away in May, following complications from bile duct cancer. During this difficult time, Daniels temporarily paused work to care for his partner, admiring Gelder’s courage in facing his illness. The couple resided in East Sussex, and at the time of his demise, Gelder was 74 years old.
In the tales of J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Lord of the Rings,” Círdan holds significant importance. As far as I’m aware, Daniels is the first actor to bring this character to life on screen. It remains uncertain how long “The Rings of Power” will run, but with an actor as gifted as Daniels cast in the role, I can only hope he gets to portray him for a substantial period of time.
Currently, you have the opportunity to watch the initial three installments of “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power”. The subsequent five episodes of the season will be released weekly, with each new episode airing every Thursday.
