Cillian Murphy shoots canal boat scenes as Tommy Shelby in freezing conditions as work continues on the set of Peaky Blinders film The Immortal Man
As a lifestyle expert with a penchant for all things cinematic and a deep appreciation for the art of storytelling, I am thrilled to see Cillian Murphy back in character as Tommy Shelby in the forthcoming Peaky Blinders film. Having followed this gripping series since its inception, I can attest that it has become more than just a television show – it’s a cultural phenomenon that captivates audiences worldwide.
On a Wednesday, filming for the upcoming full-length version of Peaky Blinders resumed at the Dudley canals, with Cillian Murphy rejoining the set.
A widely-adored BBC crime show that takes place in Birmingham during its 20th-century industrial upheaval, concluded its six-season journey in the year 2022.
Since then, plans for turning Steven Knight’s TV series into a movie have been ongoing, and main filming started in September.
On Wednesday, it seemed like neither the cast nor the crew let the cold weather bother them as they resumed filming in the Midlands, focusing on a canal scene involving Murphy, who once again plays the character of Tommy Shelby, the notorious crime boss.
During filming at the Dudley Canal located at Bumble Hole and Warrens Hall Nature Reserve in Netherton, the Irish actor donned Shelby’s signature trench coat and Baker Boy hat, embodying his character.

In the upcoming movie called “The Immortal Man,” we’ll see some fresh faces like Tim Roth, Rebecca Ferguson, and Barry Keoghan joining the cast.
In June, it was announced that the creative team behind the original Peaky Blinders, including both writers and directors, along with Murphy, will reunite for a Netflix movie adaption of the popular television series.
The streaming platform verified the news via a picture of the script, as they indicated that Tommy Shelby wasn’t done with the award-winning actor, according to Deadline. (This version maintains clarity and reads smoothly while using active voice and concise language.)
I’m thrilled to once again join forces with Steven Knight and Tom Harper as we bring Peaky Blinders to life on the big screen. It’s a project that our dedicated fans will surely enjoy!
10 years back, when I initially took charge of Peaky Blinders, we weren’t certain about where the series would lead, but we sensed that there was a powerful blend in the chemistry of our actors and the script, which had an electric feel to it.
‘For years, Peaky has centered around the concept of family. It’s thrilling to be rejoining forces with Steve and Cillian once more as we prepare to share this film with global viewers through Netflix.’
In 2013, the hit series “Peaky Blinders” debuted, captivating large viewerships not just within the UK but internationally as well. Notable actors like Tom Hardy and Anya Taylor-Joy were among those who joined the cast.
The show draws inspiration from an actual Birmingham-based gang with the same moniker, active between the 1880s and 1920s, who were involved in similar forms of criminal activity.

The gritty drama “Peaky Blinders” unfolded across six seasons in a span of nine years, culminating with the character Tommy, who was deceived into thinking he had a fatal disease, surviving an assassination plot masterminded by his own nephew. After this event, he avenged himself on his nephew and set off for a fresh start elsewhere.
For some time now, I’ve found myself deeply worried about my on-screen brother, Paul Anderson (Arthur Shelby in Peaky Blinders), as news broke about his legal troubles involving crack cocaine possession earlier this year.
The 46-year-old was also found to have amphetamines, plus diazepam and pregabalin on him.
The Immortal Man is yet to be given an official release date.
