Chuck Mangione, Grammy-winning jazz superstar and composer, dies at 84

Jazz virtuoso Chuck Mangione, who won a Grammy for his skill on the flugelhorn and was renowned for tunes like “Feels So Good” and “Children of Sanchez,” has passed away.

On Thursday, it was confirmed by his manager, Peter S. Matorin, that Mangione passed away peacefully in his sleep at his residence in Rochester, New York, on Tuesday. He was 84 years old.

Originally from New York City, this musician established himself as a fashionable, intellectually astute trumpeter during his career that kicked off in the 1960s. Over time, he became associated with jazz legends such as Art Blakey, Dizzy Gillespie, Sam Jones, Ron Carter, and Kai Winding. Additionally, he garnered 14 Grammy nominations, ultimately taking home two awards – one for the graceful tune “Bellavia” in 1977 and another for the theme song he created for the 1978 film “The Children of Sanchez.
