Christopher Nolan rumored to be making a horror movie next
As a lifelong fan of both Christopher Nolan‘s masterful storytelling and the allure of the undead, I can hardly contain my excitement at the possibility of this latest rumor being true! The idea of seeing Nolan dive headfirst into the world of vampires, particularly in the 1920s, is nothing short of tantalizing.
It appears that the popularity of vampires is on the rise! The acclaimed series “Interview with the Vampire” has been renewed for a third season, Robert Eggers’ anticipated “Nosferatu” film will hit theaters in December, and Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan are collaborating on a movie titled “Sinners,” which also features vampires. Additionally, one of this year’s top horror films, “Abigail,” focuses on a lethal vampire ballerina.
Currently, it seems that acclaimed filmmaker Christopher Nolan, fresh from his success with Oppenheimer which garnered seven Academy Awards and shattered numerous box office records, is keen on jumping into the current wave of popular trends.
But let’s back up a second before we get into the vampire rumor.
According to reports from The Hollywood Reporter, Tom Holland – best known for his role as Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe – has joined the cast of Christopher Nolan’s upcoming movie. Already confirmed to star is Matt Damon. It appears that Nolan himself has penned the script for this project and will take on directing duties for Universal Pictures. As of now, the unnamed film is set to hit theaters on July 17, 2026.
Based on reports from THR, specific plot details are being kept secret for now. However, it’s suggested that the movie may not take place in the current time, which adds some truth to the circulating speculation about its setting.
According to a trustworthy insider, Gizmodo reports that Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film is expected to be set in the 1920s and revolve around vampires. However, Universal has not responded to their query regarding this rumor, so there’s no confirmation or denial at this time.
It would be exciting to witness Christopher Nolan direct a true-to-form horror movie. Although he has dabbled in horror genres with his critically acclaimed psychological thrillers, such as Memento, Insomnia, and The Prestige (a period piece), he hasn’t yet taken on a full-fledged horror project. A vampire film set in the 1920s could prove to be an exceptional choice for his debut into the horror genre.
Absolutely, there’s a chance the rumors could be off base, and Nolan might have a completely different concept up his sleeve. Given their history of tackling intense dramatic and action-packed roles, it’s possible this project will lean towards an action flick. However, it could also veer into the realm of horror – but without the traditional vampire theme.
