Director Christopher Nolan has addressed concerns about his new movie, The Odyssey. While the film is expected to be a major release this year, some viewers have pointed out historical inaccuracies.
This movie retells the story of Homer’s Odyssey, an ancient Greek tale. It centers on Odysseus, played by Matt Damon, and his challenging voyage back home following the Trojan War.
Even though Christopher Nolan is one of the most reliably successful directors in Hollywood, his newest film is facing criticism. Some reviewers have pointed out issues with the historical accuracy of the costumes and armour.

Before the movie comes out in July, Christopher Nolan spoke with TIME Magazine and responded to some worries people had about it. He especially complimented the team working on the film’s visuals, praising their careful work and attention to detail.
He explained that some ancient Mycenaean daggers are made of bronze that’s turned black. The idea is that they likely knew how to darken bronze back then – by combining it with gold and silver, and then using sulphur.

Our costume designer, Ellen Mirojnick, is working to show Agamemnon’s higher status compared to other characters. She’s doing this by using very luxurious and costly fabrics.
Early artists often showed characters from Homer’s stories dressed and looking like people who lived during Homer’s era. This makes sense, as that’s how the original audience would have pictured them.
The director of Oppenheimer, who recently won an Academy Award, said he hopes audiences will enjoy the movie, even if they don’t share all of its viewpoints. He emphasized that he wanted to show he approached the project with seriousness and respect.

After the latest trailer came out, some people criticized the actors’ accents. Also, using the word “daddy” instead of “father” caused some negative reactions online.
The film boasts a star-studded cast alongside Damon, featuring Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson, Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong’o, Zendaya, Charlize Theron, Jon Bernthal, Benny Safdie, Elliot Page, Samantha Morton, and Mia Goth.
The Odyssey is released in cinemas on 17 July.
