Christopher Nolan elected to lead the Directors Guild of America

Christopher Nolan was chosen as the new president of the Directors Guild of America on Saturday. He will now lead the union, which represents over 19,500 directors and other film professionals.

Christopher Nolan, 55, is one of the most acclaimed and financially successful filmmakers of his generation. He’s now working on a big-screen version of Homer’s “The Odyssey,” which is set to release on July 16, 2026, and tickets are already sold out for many showings a year ahead of time.

Christopher Nolan goes deep on ‘Oppenheimer,’ his most ‘extreme’ film to date

I was absolutely blown away by Christopher Nolan’s latest film! It’s a truly ambitious project that plunges you right into the heart of a pivotal, explosive moment in 20th-century history – the beginning of the nuclear age. It feels like his most daring and impressive work yet.

Nolan is now leading the guild, succeeding Lesli Linka Glatter, who led the organization for two terms starting in 2021.

Nolan also expressed gratitude for President Glatter’s leadership during her four-year term. He’s eager to work with her and the new Board to secure vital creative and financial benefits for their members.

Laura Belsey was appointed national vice-president and Paris Barclay, a past president of the Directors Guild of America, will serve as secretary-treasurer. Joining them as additional vice-presidents are Todd Holland, Ron Howard, Gina Prince-Bythewood, Seith Mann, Millicent Shelton, and Lily Olszewski.

Christopher Nolan has been a Director’s Guild of America (DGA) member since 2001 and has served on the DGA’s national board since 2015. He currently leads the guild’s committees focused on theatrical creative rights and artificial intelligence.

Christopher Nolan received the Directors Guild Award for directing “Oppenheimer.” He’d also been nominated for his work on several other films, including “Dunkirk,” “Inception,” “The Dark Knight,” and “Memento.”

The Directors Guild of America (DGA) will likely begin new contract talks next year with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, which represents the film and television studios and streaming companies.

The AMPTP stated they are eager to work with President Nolan to resolve concerns for DGA members and help their companies stay competitive as the industry evolves quickly.
