Christine McGuinness opens up about ‘mistakes’ and ‘trust being broken’ during emotional chat about split from ex-husband Paddy

Christine McGuinness showed tears as she discussed her former husband Paddy’s errors and asserted that the bond of trust between them had been shattered.

The 37-year-old former wife of TV host Paddy, who ended their 11-year marriage in 2022, will be featured on this year’s Celebs Go Dating cast.

During an interview with the relationship advisors on E4’s dating program, Christine shared details about her marriage to well-known television host, Paddy.

She shared that when she first encountered her former spouse, his fame wasn’t as prominent as it is today. The encounter took place when she was 19 years old, at a modeling event where she was showcasing her work.

‘My ex-husband was there, someone introduced us. We had a laugh and kept in touch.’

When questioned about her feelings towards Paddy, Christine admitted that she indeed found him appealing, as he possessed an endearing wit and had a knack for making her smile.

She also described meeting Paddy as ‘perfect timing’ and said it was ‘an easy relationship.’

The pair, who wed in 2011, have three children – twins Leo and Penelope, as well as Felicity.

After being questioned by the experts, Christine expressed that while everyone can make errors, she felt that the trust between them had been damaged.

During the premiere of Celebs Go Dating on Monday evening, it was evident that Christine exhibited strong indications suggesting her desire to depart from the program.

The television host, who resigned from the show back in May, seemed noticeably uneasy at the gathering, where famous individuals were assigned the challenge of choosing a companion for a trip to Ibiza, with the expectation that it might bring them closer together.

Instead, it appeared overwhelming for Christine, who decided to step out for a moment with her fellow actor, Kerry Katona.

She became flustered: “Could I have a moment, please? Can I step aside for a bit? I don’t feel comfortable leaving someone behind.

‘How can I go abroad with someone I’ve just met? This is just not normal.’

When it was disclosed that she would feature on the program, it became known that Christine could potentially date both males and females during her time on the show.

Christine expressed that she found it premature to start dating so openly after her divorce from Paddy McGuinness.

Initially, she traveled to Ibiza to start filming the series alongside the other actors. However, she later announced to her followers that she was heading back home to be with her family due to a sudden change in plans.

On Instagram, she shared her thoughts: ‘I entered Celebs Go Dating with sincere motives, but I’ve come to understand that dating in the public eye and the attention it attracts is not something I’m ready for yet.’

As a die-hard admirer, let me share the words of Christine herself: “I’ve been told that there might be a chance for me to return in the future, and I couldn’t be more thankful! But for now, I’m eagerly returning home to my beloved family.

In an appearance on Celebs Go Dating, Christine expressed that she feels close to becoming her own individual, distinct from being known as “Paddy’s wife.” She added that she is moving beyond the transition phase.

‘I’m currently unattached, and I deeply appreciate the company of women. I’m keen on further exploration in this area, as it seems to be a place where I feel most at ease.’

In her own words, she shared that during her teenage years, she had romantic relationships with both men and women. Now, however, she finds immense joy in solely spending time with women.

Over the past three years, I’ve exclusively dated women. To set the record straight, I’ve always identified as a woman and have never used any sexual labels other than my name, Christine.

Christine was married to TV presenter Paddy for 11 years before they split for good in 2022.

Having resided together for the benefit of their three autistic children, the former spouses formally ended their marriage without a trial last summer.

Christine shared that the break-up was quite challenging for her, as the couple’s luxurious Cheshire estate, valued at approximately £6.5 million, had been listed for sale.

She said: ‘I’ve never spoken about the reasons for our divorce, and I don’t know if I ever will.

During that period, the situation proved challenging. It wasn’t impulsive or a choice we made swiftly; rather, it evolved gradually over time.

‘We tried, and, yeah, there just, unfortunately, there was no repairing it, you know?’

In an interview prior to leaving the show, the television personality confessed that she hadn’t had many romantic encounters previously, making this a fresh and unfamiliar journey for her in terms of dating.

As a thrilled newcomer, I can’t wait to embark on this exciting journey with the agency. This summer promises an abundance of enjoyable moments, and I’m eagerly anticipating the unexpected turns! With limited dating experience in my past, it feels like I’m diving headfirst into a whirlwind romance course!

I’m excited about meeting the other famous personalities, and I’m particularly eager for the mentoring aspect of working with the agents. I believe this will be beneficial for my growth.
