Christine McGuinness & Duncan James’s Cab Hailing Exit Steals the Show at TV Choice Awards
Christine McGuinness strolled along, linked arm-in-arm with Blue star Duncan James, acting as their guide among the celebrities exiting the TV Choice Awards and hailing taxis for their ride home.
The 2025 TV Choice Awards saw stars gather at The Hilton on Park Lane on Monday evening.
As I stepped out from the grand event location, arm-in-arm with my dear friend Duncan (aged 46), I was one of the individuals noticed by onlookers.
37-year-old TV host Ashley James exuded elegance in a snug-fitting violet latex gown as she was spotted leaving a hotel, radiating charm while striking poses outside.
Afterward, Denise Van Outen, dressed in a crimson lace minidress, hastened to hail a taxi for home, ready to depart.
Additionally, Sian Welby, the latest mother on the block, was seen making her way home, turning heads in a stylish pastel pink tailored jacket with ruffled shoulder details and a fitted design at the bottom, often called a “bootcut”.

While Katie Piper continued to look stylish, she hopped into a cab, whereas Kate Garraway and Johnny Vaughan were attempting to flag one down.
Among the stars departing were Mollie Pearce, known from shows like “Dancing on Ice” and “The Traitors”, along with season three’s Leanne Quigley, who also graced our screens.
Don Gillet and Siobhan Finneran stayed close together, while Linda Robson, Hayley Palmer, and Anne Hegerty took pictures before departing.)
As a lifestyle aficionado, I had the pleasure of attending an exquisite event recently – the grand ceremony where The Hairy Bikers took home the prize for Best Food Show with their last series, The Hairy Bikers Go West. This was a poignant victory, as it marked the final show before the untimely passing of Dave Myers.
In February 2024, at the age of 66, Dave sadly lost his life after a prolonged fight against an undisclosed type of cancer, with his fellow actor, Si King, present by his side during this difficult time.
On Monday evening, it was I who received the award, which had been selected by the public and handed over by Sally Lindsay and Steve Edge from The Madame Blanc Mysteries.
In another touching instance, Brenda Blethyn, aged 78, was honored with the Outstanding Contribution Award, celebrating her exceptional role as DCI Vera Stanhope in the ITV detective series Vera. She parted ways with the show last year following the completion of its 14th series.
Timothy Spall, Brenda’s Secrets and Lies co-star and a fellow BAFTA winner at 67 years old, was selected to present the gong. (Informal: The role of presenting the award was given to Timothy Spall, who is co-star with Brenda in Secrets and Lies and a fellow BAFTA laureate at the age of 67.)

While Nicola Coughlan won the Best Comedy Performance award for her role on Channel 4’s Big Mouth, she outshone Michelle Keegan from Brassic in this category.
As an over-the-moon fan, I can’t help but exclaim that one of last night’s standout victories was the critically adored ITV series “Mr. Bates vs The Post Office.” This exceptional drama not only clinched the title for Best New Drama but also saw Toby Jones, who brilliantly portrayed the titular character, receive the award for Best Drama Performance. Simply put, it was a night to remember!
The four-part documentary detailed the prolonged effort to uncover the IT system scandal at Horizon, an incident where numerous Post Office employees were falsely accused of theft and fraud.
In this year’s awards, Ant and Dec added another impressive win to their collection with the 19th trophy for I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!, as it was crowned the best reality show once more. Meanwhile, Strictly claimed the title of Best Talent Show in a close competition.
In a triumphant night, Emmerdale garnered success by receiving two prestigious awards – Best Soap and Best Soap Newcomer. The latter recognition was bestowed upon Beth Cordingly, who played the character of Ruby Fox-Miligan.
As a fervent admirer, I can’t contain my excitement as the TV Choice Awards have taken a groundbreaking step by abandoning gendered categories and instead, introducing ‘Best Performer’ awards! This inclusive move is truly a game-changer, celebrating talent without boundaries.

In recent discussions, there’s been a question about how awards ceremonies can make their categories inclusive for non-binary performers. The BRIT Awards were the pioneers by going gender-neutral, whereas the BAFTAs chose not to follow suit.
Instead, the TV Choice Awards no longer present separate awards for Best Soap Actor and Best Soap Actress. Now, there’s a single category called Best Soap Performer, which can be won by any actor or actress who appears regularly in a soap opera series.
In my professional opinion, I’ve streamlined both the Drama and Comedy categories by condensing them down to a single award each. This change should make it easier for us to celebrate the outstanding performances in these two vital areas of entertainment.
At this year’s show, the “Best Soap Newcomer” award is added to the roster of fresh accolades for actors and actresses in their debut roles.
