Christine McGuinness, 37, reveals she has dated women since she was a teenager as she opens up about her sexuality and divorce from ex Paddy
Christine McGuinness has shared details about her personal life, disclosing that she identifies as bisexual and has had relationships with women since her teenage years, while also discussing her divorce from Paddy McGuinness.
The television host, aged 37, shared with Elizabeth Day during her How To Fail podcast, that both her ex-spouse and family had been aware of her sexuality since childhood, as it was never kept hidden or a mystery.
In the year 2022, they called it quits on their 11-year marriage, but for the wellbeing of their trio – twins Leo and Penelope, as well as Felicity – they chose to remain under one roof in the home they shared.
Now, she’s shared that she had romantic relationships with women, among them a two-year long non-official relationship, prior to meeting Paddy. She also confessed that she seeks personal connections rather than becoming a parental figure for her kids.
She informed the broadcaster: “Gender should be irrelevant. For me, it has never been a factor, which is why after separating from my ex-husband, when I started meeting new people, I didn’t pursue dating seriously.

In my case, it wasn’t unusual to have friendships that were somewhat ambiguous. As a teenager, I had romantic relationships with both men and women, which felt natural to me. My ex-husband was aware of this, as was my family. It has never been a secret for me.
Asked about my sexual identity, I pondered and found that I resonate more with being a ‘spontaneous soul’ rather than fitting into a specific label.
Frankly, I’ve pondered over it extensively. Many individuals frequently inquire about my sexual orientation, asking if I’m a lesbian, or bisexual, and so on. Sometimes they even question if this is just a phase for me.
I’ve often described myself as a free-spirited individual, and that label seems fitting. During my teenage years, I dated individuals of various genders. Around 14 or 15, I shared my first kisses with both boys and girls, and these experiences never felt unusual or significant to me.
‘Then I think where I grew up, everyone was kind of just there for a good time.’
Christine shared that prior to dating Paddy, she had relationships with other women, and the longest of these lasted approximately two years.
She mentioned that her longest relationship lasted for two years before meeting her former spouse, and since then, she’s experienced beautiful, extended periods of transition in which she deliberately avoided defining the nature of things between them.
‘But my experiences with women have been lovely and It’s not like women are better or worse.

Essentially, what I mean is that my connection to things is unique right now. I crave a new kind of connection, one that I feel immediately.
As a devoted admirer, let me express that my affection for my kin is unwavering, and in their midst, Patrick holds a cherished place – a bond that remains eternal. However, as I embark on the next chapter of my personal journey, I’ve come to understand my heart’s desires more profoundly. I yearn for a companion who will be an integral part of my life, someone who complements me perfectly.
As your go-to lifestyle guide, allow me to express my preference in a companion: I’m seeking someone with whom I share a deep bond, someone who makes time together feel enriching rather than monotonous. We should engage in activities that spark joy for both of us. This relationship is about more than just shared interests; it’s about the emotional connection where I can express my feelings freely, be honest about my struggles, and ask for assistance when needed. Yet, it’s also essential to maintain a sense of humor and cherish those moments of pure fun and laughter that life presents us with.
‘I don’t intend to seek a replacement family or a new parental figure for myself in my next relationship. Instead, I aim for this relationship to focus on me.’
Christine shared details about her divorce, stating that they mutually understand they can move on, and they avoid disclosing too much about their new romantic pursuits.
She mentioned: For sixteen years, we shared a life together. Even after our separation three years ago, I continued to reside with him. Our paths crossed when I was 19, and since then, we have lived under the same roof. It was an unusual situation, as I recall, when we made public announcements about our split, we were both anxious about the public’s reaction.
‘We both know that we’re we can date and we’re allowed to’, she added.
Since we’re both grown-ups and unattached, we have the freedom to act as we choose. However, we understand the importance of maintaining boundaries, so we’ll avoid over-disclosing personal details since we were once romantic partners and continue to share a residence together.

Later, she clarified that they reside in distinct sections or parts of the building, with each area being entirely independent.
Her confession comes after she was spotted landing back in the UK after quitting Celebs Go Dating.
Friends near the mother of three suspect that she might have departed from the program due to worries about potentially causing distress to her ex-husband Paddy, who is 51 years old, by talking about their recent divorce on television.
As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but share the buzzing news! From what I’ve gathered, our beloved ex-Top Gear host’s former partner has been having a blast filming and going on dates since touching down on the enchanting White Isle this week.
On a Wednesday, she found herself unable to leave the pool party at Ibiza, an event where Celebs Go Dating alums and unexpected guests like Wayne Lineker and Dean Gaffney were present.
On the TV show, the celebrity, initially open to dating individuals of both genders, was disclosing further details about her preferences. At the initial gathering with the contestants, known as the mixer, she expressed a fondness for women who embody femininity and possess an edgy quality.
Subsequently, it was revealed that Christine abruptly left the show, as sources indicated that she grew increasingly uncomfortable due to the public scrutiny of her personal matters, particularly her ongoing divorce proceedings.
According to the source, Christine was quite eager for the show and found it insightful as she delved deeper into understanding herself, with the guidance of relationship specialists.
‘She settled in really well in Ibiza and treated it like a bit of a holiday.

Prior to her withdrawal from the competition, she was delighting in one of the series’ pool parties, engaging in lively conversations with past competitors Wayne and Dean.
She developed a playful romantic connection with one of the show’s participants, whom she traveled to Ibiza with for the dating competition. Eventually, she began expressing her emotions toward other women.
In an unexpected turn, her emotional state shifted, and she started harboring genuine concerns about her looks, particularly worrying that talking about their divorce on the TV show might displease Paddy.
Unfortunately, her mental state wasn’t conducive to participation, so it was more advantageous for everyone involved if she stepped out of the process.
In her declaration, she admitted: ‘I entered Celebs Go Dating with sincere motives, yet I’ve come to understand that dating in a public arena and the spotlight it attracts is moving too quickly for my current comfort level.’
Additionally, Christine mentioned the possibility of reappearing at some point. She expressed that the opportunity has been extended to her, and she’s thankful for it, but for the moment, she is heading back to her loved ones at home.
In 2022, after 11 years of marriage, Christine and Paddy, parents to three children – twins Leo and Penelope, along with their sister Felicity, all of whom have been diagnosed with autism – decided to separate.
The exes finalised their divorce out of court last summer.
Last month, TopMob revealed Paddy had put their £6.5million Cheshire house up for sale.
After their divorce, they both continued residing in their shared home, but it seems Christine was gradually growing weary of sharing a household with Paddy, who appeared content with the ongoing situation.

As a die-hard fan, I’ve always kept quiet about the nitty-gritty details of our separation, and I’m not sure if I ever will.
That period was quite challenging for us. It wasn’t a decision made lightly or impulsively; rather, it was a situation that evolved over time and required careful consideration before action could be taken.
‘We tried, and, yeah, there just, unfortunately, there was no repairing it, you know?’
Before choosing to leave the program, the television personality openly shared that her romantic past was limited, implying this would be a fresh, unfamiliar chapter in her life.
She expressed her enthusiasm about becoming part of the agency and anticipates an enjoyable summer ahead. She wonders about the possibilities that may unfold since she hasn’t had much dating experience in the past, which makes it feel like she’s attending a fast-paced dating class.
I’m excited to meet the other famous personalities and, moreover, I can’t wait to dive into the coaching aspect of working with the agents. I believe it will be beneficial for my growth.
Christine found herself open to dating people of any gender, as she developed feelings for the same sex after a deep bond with singer Chelcee Grimes. The two were seen sharing a kiss following Christine’s breakup with Paddy.
