Christina Applegate’s Shocking Hospital Visits for MS Illness Revealed
Christina Applegate has disclosed the astonishing number of instances when she’s had to be quickly taken to the hospital due to health issues stemming from her multiple sclerosis (MS).
The 53-year-old actress, who has just disclosed a previously unnoticed sign of Multiple Sclerosis, opened up about her struggle with this long-term, immune system disorder that impacts the nervous system, on her podcast titled “MeSsy.
For the past three years, following my diagnosis, I’ve had to visit the hospital over thirty times due to recurring symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, and intense pain.
It’s hard to believe, but they’ve subjected me to every conceivable test and exposed me to a vast amount of radiation, from CT scans to other procedures.
Christina recently shared some good news; she thinks she’s found the solution to the problem she’s been dealing with over the past month.
In response to a fan’s inquiry about experiencing vomiting and diarrhea due to their Multiple Sclerosis, the actress from Married With Children suggested: ‘Perhaps this isn’t the case, but I thought I should mention it. You might want to consult your doctor about mobility issues, if you haven’t already.’
One aspect of Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is that it can cause a gradual decrease in the efficiency of various organs, not to the point of complete failure, but rather a diminished performance over time.
‘I have noticed that — and I’m going to be really honest — if I have to poop, I puke.’
Christina additionally mentioned that she planned to undergo a colonoscopy and showed the doctor an email from the fan as evidence.
She said: ‘My neuro doesn’t — God bless her — says that’s not an MS thing.
Well, let me tell you something, my friend. It’s not hard to see a pattern here, though I’m no medical professional. But hey, just consider this thought, alright? You see, we find ourselves in the same predicament, and it’s absolutely miserable, I can vouch for that. Scary too, I must admit.
Christina playfully commented that the aspect she enjoys most about fighting multiple sclerosis is experiencing both diarrhea and vomiting at the same time.
She suggested, “It’s handy to keep a small waste bin near the toilet. That way, you can discard waste while maintaining cleanliness easily.
‘I had one yesterday.’

In March 2024, Christina began hosting the MeSsy podcast alongside fellow actress Jamie-Lynn Sigler. Both of them are combating Multiple Sclerosis (MS).
In December, Christina shared during a podcast that she had overlooked an early sign of Multiple Sclerosis (MS) when she stumbled on the set of her Netflix show, Dead to Me.
In conversation with Jamie-Lynn (aged 43) and Liz Feldman (aged 47), who is the creator of Dead to Me, Applegate shared that she distinctly recalled a moment when I found myself tumbling on that particular day.
The person from Hollywood, California shared that she took a tumble during the filming of a running scene in a meadow for the most recent episode of the podcast named “Putting Life on Paper.
Applegate shared about her fall, saying, “Well, that seems to be the first symptom of multiple sclerosis. I don’t want to cast a gloomy mood, but there it is.
As a lifestyle expert, I’d say: In a recent podcast discussion, two renowned figures from the world of entertainment – an Emmy-winning actress who bravely disclosed her Multiple Sclerosis (MS) diagnosis in August 2021, and Sigler, a former cast member of The Sopranos who shared her own MS battle back in January 2016 – have openly shared their personal health journeys.
Feldman pointed out that Applegate, who played a significant role in the show between 2019 and 2022, showed signs of bodily discomfort, which she attributed to extended working hours on set.
As a devoted admirer looking back, let me tell you that there were moments during the filming of the pilot when your balance seemed to falter a couple of times. It was quite challenging to decipher the cause since, as you might recall, one instance occurred quite late into the night.

After working tirelessly for about 14 to 15 hours, I must admit that even the most energetic individuals might find themselves on the brink of exhaustion. It’s only natural, really.
Applegate, who persisted with her work on the third season even following her diagnosis, openly shared that she had Multiple Sclerosis.
Feldman expressed understanding as he observed Applegate, recognized for her roles in Married… with Children and Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead, persevere through her health predicament during filming.
Feldman remarked, ‘I had a feeling about A, that she was frightened, and B, there was trouble brewing…it seemed like something inside her wasn’t functioning as she desired.’ He added, ‘Unfortunately, there’s no instruction manual for such situations.’
‘I can’t compare it to any experience I’ve ever gone through with a person before.’
In the midst of filming the third season, Feldman consistently prioritized Applegate’s health over the importance of the television show, emphasizing this to her on various occasions.
At the close of the day, Feldman expressed to Applegate that, while it might touch and amuse others, this journey is about you.
According to Applegate, during her Multiple Sclerosis struggle, Feldman and the Netflix team made extra efforts to support her, even pausing production for a full week so she could rest and recover.

In a remarkable way, I’ve never encountered such kindness elsewhere. My appreciation for your humanness, as it is expected of humans to care for each other, knows no bounds. It’s something I find hard to express because it’s simply not the typical response. – Applegate stated.
In addition to the lead roles, the show featured Linda Cardellini, James Marsden, Sam McCarthy, Luke Roessler, Max Jenkins, Diana Maria Riva, and Brandon Scott.
In the dark comedy, Applegate and Cardellini portrayed Jen Harding and Judy Hale respectively. These characters were two women experiencing grief, who found solace and grew closer through their shared therapy sessions.
The program received six nominations for Primetime Emmys, and Applegate earned two nominations for her performance as the main character.
In a December 2022 interview, Applegate explained to Kelly Clarkson that the show offered her an unusual stage for handling her life-altering diagnosis.
In Dead to Me, what makes it special is that I didn’t have to constantly be on or deliver all the humor. Instead, I could let my character fall apart in scenes, which mirrored my own experiences, albeit unfortunately displayed for the world to see. However, this raw portrayal was a beautiful form of catharsis.
