Christian Bale’s iconic horror movie to get a reboot

As a seasoned gamer who’s navigated through countless virtual worlds and real-life cinematic universes, I can’t help but feel a mix of anticipation and intrigue as Luca Guadagnino steps into the gritty realm of American Psycho. Having delved deep into the sensual undercurrents of tennis courts with Challengers and explored the tender complexities of queer love in Call Me By Your Name, his unique directorial touch promises to breathe new life into this dark, satirical tale.

American Psycho, the 1991 novel by Bret Easton Ellis, is getting a new movie adaptation.

In the 1980s-based horror genre, we find a character who is an investment banker on Wall Street but hides a chilling secret – he’s a serial killer. Renowned for its graphic violence and biting satire of the Yuppie lifestyle, this production had earlier been reimagined in the year 2000, with Christian Bale portraying the primary character, Patrick Bateman.

Currently, it’s being shared by Deadline that studio Lionsgate is working towards a fresh movie adaptation of the book, with Luca Guadagnino close to finalizing directing duties for this project.

Guadagnino has a history of working on films that subtly explore homosexual themes. For instance, he directed the sensual tennis drama “Challengers” this year. He’s also delved into more overt gay-themed content with movies like “Call Me By Your Name“, and is set to continue in that vein with the upcoming film “Queer“.

In the final movie I’m referring to, it’s me, the enthusiast here, who gets to witness James Bond and Daniel Craig from Knives Out in action. This time around, they portray characters living abroad, grappling with their pain through fleeting encounters with casual sex and drugs. Remarkably, they both develop an intense fixation on a younger individual, which adds a unique twist to the plot.

Prior to its official debut, the movie was screened at the Venice Film Festival for critics who then wrote their reviews about it. The performances of leads Craig and Drew Starkey, according to early reviews, have been exceptional. However, the third act’s unexpected journey into the jungle has sparked some debate among reviewers.

More recently, Craig shared the story of his involvement in the project named “Queer“, reminiscing: “Twenty years ago, I crossed paths with Guadagnino and we both expressed a desire to collaborate. Finally, that opportunity materialized.

If I weren’t a part of this movie and I were merely an audience member, I’d wish I was in it. This is the type of movie I’d love to watch and create; I aspire for it to be released.
