Chrissy Teigen’s Shock Relapse Sparks Fans’ Divided Reactions
Last week, Chrissy Teigen stunned her audience when she disclosed that she’s been experiencing setbacks following her announcement of giving up alcohol four years ago.
In a recent episode of her Self-Conscious podcast, the 39-year-old social media sensation disclosed that she had momentarily stepped away from sobriety. This confession was made during an interview with author Holly Whitaker, the mind behind Quit Like A Woman. She further announced this change to her followers through a post on Instagram.
The admission – initially ridiculed by Courtney Stodden, a past victim of her cyberbullying – received heartfelt messages of encouragement from her friends and devoted followers in response.
But some commenters weren’t as charmed by her openness about her struggles giving up alcohol.
Many Instagram users found it puzzling as to why Chrissy chose to disclose such a private matter in a public platform.
As a devoted admirer, I can’t help but notice that there seems to be an exceptional inclination towards sharing and seeking attention in abundance, as observed by another individual, as reported by Atlanta Black Star.

‘It seems she comes across as false to others, including me.’
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but ponder over the mystery of celebrities disclosing their personal matters. Frankly, it seems to me that such intimate details are better kept within close circles – namely, family ❤️🖤.
Some commentators penned down comments that were either chilly or blunt, despite generally backing Chrissy’s objectives.
‘This is what AA cals a “dry dr*nk”. Please get back on track,’ read one unfeeling response.
Some individuals appeared to encourage Chrissy to drink whenever she felt like it, almost as if they were disregarding the potential repercussions of alcohol consumption that she had previously outlined.
It’s alright for you to choose if you want a drink, as the ownership of your journey towards sobriety is yours alone, and it should be filled with love.
Some individuals criticized Chrissy’s descriptions of her alcohol issues, stating they were overly vague with euphemisms, and they criticized her for not labeling herself as someone who is addicted to alcohol. Interestingly, many experts in addiction now argue against using the term ‘alcoholic,’ as it can have a negative impact by perpetuating stigma.
‘One drink escalating to eight is clearly a sign of alcohol dependency; recovering alcoholics should be cautious about having even just one drink.’ The response could be, ‘I wish you all the best on your recovery path. Acknowledging and overcoming denial is crucial.’

Some similarly dismissive responses were spotted over on X.
I don’t see any relevance of this post about Chrissy Teigen in my feed since she seems like a well-off person to me.” To put it plainly, the user expressed that they found the post unimportant due to their perception of Chrissy Teigen as wealthy and privileged.
In response to the allegation of her having an alcohol problem, the user suggested that if this is indeed the case, then she should seek professional help through rehabilitation. Lastly, they expressed their disapproval of Chrissy Teigen seeking sympathy, which may indicate a belief that she doesn’t need it or shouldn’t be asking for it. In simpler terms, the user suggested that if Chrissy Teigen has an alcohol problem, she should get help in rehab instead of asking for sympathy.
But many responses were far more positive, and many fans said they appreciated Chrissy’s podcast.
Chrissy’s husband John Legend wrote that he was ‘always proud’ of her.
Demi Lovato, known for openly discussing their personal battles with addiction and substance abuse, expressed admiration for Chrissy’s courage and openness in sharing her experiences.
As a lifestyle enthusiast, let me share some wisdom I’ve gathered along my journey: It’s all about advancement, not attaining flawlessness! Believe me when I say that your progress is truly remarkable, and I am incredibly proud of the strides you’ve made 🖤.
As one of Chrissy’s friends, I’d like to echo the sentiments of actress Jaime Pressly: ‘I can hear your voice clearly, and I’m incredibly proud of you. You’re an old friend whose unwavering honesty is a source of constant inspiration ❤️.’
Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills star simply added a red heart emoji as a sign of support.

The White Lotus star Michelle Monaghan added that she ‘appreciate[s]’ Chrissy ‘so much.’
Other fans were similarly gushing in their comments.
I truly value your honesty and authenticity, especially for those of us navigating through the gray areas. It means a lot to have someone like you who doesn’t shy away from complexity and helps bring clarity to our shared journey. 🤍
In Chrissy original caption, she admitted to having relapsed on alcohol.
Chrissy expressed that Holly Whitaker significantly impacted her, shifting her perspective and perception of alcohol. However, she confessed a regretful truth: alcohol has returned to her life, potentially disappointing many people, and this realization weighs heavily upon her.
The influencer, a parent of four with John, openly confessed, “It genuinely filled me with pride whenever someone on the street shared that Holly and I had inspired them to reconsider their drinking habits. This sentiment continues to resonate within me. However, I must be honest – I’m unsure about my role in this.
As an ardent enthusiast, I unequivocally recognize the benefits of abstaining from alcohol. Not only do I accomplish more, but I also feel noticeably improved in my physical well-being. It’s downright frustrating that I can’t casually enjoy a drink with my spouse on vacation without it leading to a spiral and leaving me feeling miserable instead.
Chrissy expressed that she’s exhausted from vomiting on Tuesdays and no longer enjoys feeling as if she needs a shot to communicate with a group. She dislikes how, on certain days, the possibility of consuming alcohol can completely overwhelm her.

She openly declared to her over 40 million followers: “I’m sure your logical self is thinking, ‘Enough already!’ And trust me, I couldn’t agree more! My experience with the journey of sobriety (and its pitfalls) has significantly improved. I am keenly conscious of the potential dangers if I don’t stay vigilant.
Sharing insights into her ongoing thoughts, she clarified that her immediate strategy is to remain vigilant about maintaining her sobriety.
‘I can attend concerts and have an incredible time without being under the influence. At the Renaissance Fair, I can skip absinthe and feel completely overjoyed instead. Nowadays, my photos from my children’s birthday parties don’t show me with drowsy, alcohol-induced eyes. And I am pleased with this change.’
She consented: “However, I’m coming to terms with the fact that my relationship with alcohol isn’t typical and probably never will be. Thanks for giving me the space to work this out in front of everyone here. By the way, this is for those who are also navigating their own journeys. And to the sober community, I’m still incredibly proud of each one of you. Until we meet again.
Chrissy announced that she was giving up alcohol in a post for New Year’s Eve in December 2020.
As a lifestyle expert, I can proudly say that by July 2022, I successfully completed an entire year without alcohol, a milestone I had been striving for. Along the journey, there were a few bumps in the road, but I persevered and now stand tall with this incredible achievement.
Chrissy once shared that she sometimes yearns for the sensation of being light-hearted and carefree, but as time went on, it no longer provided that enjoyable sensation for her.
Additionally, she shared further insights into her reason for wanting to drink, explaining it was a means to alleviate her overwhelming anxiety. However, upon achieving sobriety, she found out that her anxiety significantly diminished, surprisingly, when she – here’s an interesting fact – stopped drinking!

I must confess, there have been times when I’ve felt incredibly frustrated, almost overwhelmed, trying to recall fond memories from the past. Unfortunately, those moments were often hazy due to my excessive drinking at that time.
As a devoted enthusiast, I must confess that I don’t recall ever learning the secret recipe for the famous Bloomin’ Onion from an Outback Steakhouse chef at my home, due to overindulging in tequila.
‘Wish I remembered really any awards show lol,’ she added.
As a lifestyle enthusiast, I often find myself reflecting on the countless snaps captured during grand occasions and even casual family beach days. Regrettably, I can’t help but feel that my appearance falls short in these treasured moments.
She stated: ‘Though I’m uncertain if I’ll abstain from alcohol permanently, I am certain that I don’t want to return to my previous state. For the time being, not drinking seems best. I’ll face my nightmares and work through them in therapy, without resorting to alcohol. Here’s hoping for another chance at a blooming onion, @outback.’
Despite Chrissy’s visible struggles with sobriety, it appeared that Courtney Stodden showed no signs of concern. In fact, it was Courtney who had previously accused Chrissy of posting harmful messages on social media, suggesting that she should take her own life.
Chrissy later admitted to the cruel messages and publicly apologized to Stodden.
Over the weekend, Courtney was seen in a video, seemingly enjoying a glass of bubbly as she recorded a playful take on a subject.

Just announced, it seems like a change for me. I’ve made up my mind to resume drinking alcohol from now on,” she declared.
As she tapped her glass, she went on saying: “There’s nothing more significant in this life than realizing I’m not under the influence of alcohol.
As I sip on this delightful concoction, I can’t help but share my excitement with all of you. This drink is more than just a beverage to me; it carries a special significance.
In her post’s description, she proposed getting together with Chrissy to put their disagreements behind them, but in a manner that could potentially jeopardize her sobriety.
New development! It appears that Chrissy and I have resumed our drinking habit. So, I’m extending an invitation to you — how about we meet for a drink, put our differences behind us, and move forward?
