Chris Pratt gets emotional over murdered Parks & Recreation co-star Jonathan Joss amid new shock twist
In my heartfelt words, I, Chris Pratt, express deep sorrow and pay an emotional tribute to my beloved co-star, Jonathan Joss, who tragically lost his life following a reported shooting by his neighbor.
59-year-old actor, who recently passed away, met his end in San Antonio, Texas, following an incident involving Sigfredo Alvarez Ceja, according to TMZ’s report on Sunday.
Law enforcement apprehended Ceja not long after he fled the crime scene, and they’ve taken him into custody under suspicion of committing murder. Currently, he remains in jail with a bond set at $200,000.
Joss significantly played the role of Chief Ken Hotate across five episodes on the cherished NBC sitcom, and in June, Pratt used his Instagram stories to pay tribute to his deceased friend.
45-year-old Pratt expressed: ‘Oh dear. Farewell, Jonathan. Such a thoughtful person he was. He portrayed Ken Hotate in Parks and appeared in Mag 7 too. It’s truly saddening. Sending my thoughts and prayers. Cherish your dearest ones.’

In more straightforward terms: Since then, Joss’ spouse asserts that the celebrity’s demise was a hate crime driven by homophobia. However, there’s a fresh development: the authorities have refuted this hypothesis.
According to a representative from the San Antonio Police Department, although some online sources claim that Mr. Joss’s death was motivated by hate based on his sexual orientation, at this point in the investigation, there’s no evidence found suggesting that his murder is connected to his sexuality.
Following the unfortunate event, fellow Parks & Recreation actor Nick Offerman has finally spoken out about it.
According to Nick’s statement to People on Tuesday, the cast has been exchanging messages all day, feeling deeply saddened. Jonathan was an exceptionally kind individual, and they treasured his role as their Chief Ken Hotate. This loss is truly heart-wrenching.
On Sunday, paramedics sadly confirmed that Joss had passed away as they couldn’t resuscitate him, following the accusation that his neighbor, Sigfredo Alvarez Ceja, had fatally shot him multiple times after a dispute.
In a nearby location a block away from where the incident occurred, the San Antonio Police Department apprehended the suspect in his vehicle following his escape attempt. He is currently detained with a bail set at $200,000.
On the weekend just gone, Jonathan (known for his 9K online followers) posted a cheerful video, inviting his fans to drop by Tribe Comics and Games located in Austin, Texas, for a meet-and-greet session.
On Sunday morning, Joss thanked fans on Facebook for helping him secure a ride back to San Antonio.
The most recent role credited to the graduate of Our Lady of the Lake University on IMDb was providing voices for characters in CD Projekt RED’s video game Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, which was released in 2023, alongside Keanu Reeves and Idris Elba.

As a lifestyle guru, I had the privilege of lending my voice to the character Healing in the animated drama Unplugged, created by Paul McComas and Holly Trasti. I shared the screen with some extraordinary talents, including the late Louis Gossett Jr., Ed Asner, Christina Ricci, and Jeri Ryan. What an unforgettable experience it was to be part of such a talented ensemble!
However, Joss is particularly recognized for providing the voice of John Redcorn, a musician and healer who had a 14-year romance with news anchor Nancy Hicks-Gribble (Ashley Gardner), in the Fox animated series, from seasons 2 to 13.
Last Friday, a captivating actor of Native American heritage unexpectedly joined the gathering of the King of the Hill reunion, which took place at ATX TV Festival in Austin. Present were creators Mike Judge and Greg Daniels, along with actors Pamela Adlon, Lauren Tom, and Toby Huss.
On the 23rd of January, tragedy struck as Jonathan lost his cherished dogs, all three, when the house his father constructed in 1957, a place from his childhood, was consumed by flames.
Additionally, Joss unfortunately lost his vehicle in the fire, however, the GoFundMe campaign initiated by Logan Kostroun managed to collect an impressive $10,721 out of a targeted $15,000.
However, neighbors informed TMZ on Monday that his house was destroyed by fire, as they claim he tried to warm it using a barbecue grill following allegations that the city turned off his power because the property was considered hazardous and unsuitable for living.
On a Monday, Tristan Kern de Gonzales’ widow, who he married on Valentine’s Day, asserted that he was killed, following two years of alleged harassment from openly homophobic people who were reportedly unable to accept their relationship.
As a devoted admirer, I can’t help but share my heart-wrenching experience. Upon revisiting our beloved spot to check our mail, we were struck with an unimaginable sight – the skull of our cherished pooch, along with its harness, strategically displayed for all to see. This gut-wrenching discovery left us both in deep emotional turmoil.
As we were engaged, a person came up to us. He began to loudly use offensive language against homosexual individuals. Suddenly, he drew a firearm from his lap and discharged it. Unfortunately, Jonathan and I were unarmed.
He added, “‘We weren’t trying to intimidate anyone. We were mourning. We stood together. When the man started shooting, Jonathan shoved me aside. He protected me from harm.’
Tristan remarked, “Now, I want to safeguard Jonathan’s heritage and pay tribute to the life we crafted together.

In addition, Jonathan is recognized for playing the character Chief Ken Hotate across five episodes of the NBC mockumentary sitcom Parks and Recreation, which aired from 2011 to 2015.
Joss had small roles in TV shows like Walker Texas Ranger, Charmed, ER, Ray Donovan and Tulsa King.
Additionally, he has appeared in various movies such as True Grit, The Magnificent Seven, Pocahontas II: A New World Adventure, and the comedy Johnson Family Road Trip.
