Chris Pratt divides fans with cryptic ‘scratch and sniff’ voting selfie on Election Day
As a seasoned observer of Hollywood’s ever-evolving landscape, I find myself drawn to Chris Pratt, a man who seems to embody the very essence of modern-day paradoxes. On one hand, he is an action hero, a beloved figure in the Marvel universe, and a doting father; on the other, he has found himself entangled in controversies that have left many scratching their heads.
Chris Pratt shared a selfie of himself after voting, posting it on Election Tuesday.
In an Instagram post, the actor, aged 45, commented with this caption: ‘Received a scent-sensitive label. Give it a scratch. It smells like liberty.’
Yesterday, I, a devoted admirer, shared a playful, smirk-filled selfie – quite possibly in response to the flak I received the day before, when my seemingly impartial stance on the heated Presidential race between Democrat Kamala Harris and Republican Donald Trump sparked controversy.
His selfie and his caption did not reveal which candidate he voted for.
In a piece penned for Maria Shriver’s Sunday Paper website, the Marvel actor, aged 45, expressed his desire to emphasize that regardless of who emerges victorious in the election or which side prevails, we all share the title of being ‘fellow Americans.’
The selfie had fans divided – with some praising him for not stating who he was voting for.
One social media user wrote: ‘Bless you for voting and not telling us who to vote for or who you voted for. Miss those days and real people who don’t tell others how to think.’
A person expressed, using applause emojis: “For deviating from your usual voting behavior and for the divisive tone of your ‘win or lose’ article, I wish we could have remained united as one.
Others speculated on who he voted for, with one writing: ‘I know there’s no way Pratt voted for Kamala.’
Another said that they ‘hope you voted with your daughters and wife in mind.’
One person said that ‘if it smells like freedom I think we all know who he voted for,’ garnering almost 500 likes.
In his op-ed, The Guardians Of The Galaxy leading man wrote: ‘It’s ok to take a moment to lick your wounds when you lose. Heck, go ahead and cry in the mirror.
However, when we let defeat overwhelm us or allow triumph to inflate our ego, it’s essential to remember that we are all fellow citizens, regardless of which team we support.
On Reddit, many users criticized Pratt for his seemingly vague and insignificant political stance, labeling it as shallow and unimpressive.
One user commented, “That was quite underwhelming,” while another said, “It was disappointingly bland, Chris. Not very helpful at all.
Said one user: ‘Dude couldn’t make it three sentences without “both sides” ‘ing it lol.’
Another added, ‘Oh, shut up, Chris. No one needs your useless platitudes.’
One user challenged Pratt’s sentiments, writing, ‘Okay Chris, I’ll bite. Tell me one thing about Trump’s side that is worth voting for, if you see things from “both sides.”‘
Critics of his op-ed also took to X, formerly Twitter, calling Pratt’s neutrality ‘upsetting.’
A user expressed their disappointment when Chris Pratt appeared neutral, despite the fact that the platform belongs to Maria Shriver, a former Democrat who’s now independent. They find it troubling because the issues at hand are personally significant to them.
Adding: ‘My life is at stake, the bodily autonomy of my fellow trans siblings and people who can get pregnant in general, of black people and immigrants, of anyone who disagrees with Trump’s policies, and watching Chris Pratt say “I see both side” and “It’s not about who wins and loses.”‘
Another wrote, ‘This clown lmao human rights are on the line and he has the audacity to say this c***.’
Shriver called the piece a ‘really good op-ed by my son-in-law’ in a link to his story on her site.
On Shriver’s X account, a discussion ensued linking to the story. Participants shared similar views: One participant commented, “I decline, ‘good people on both sides’ is nonsense’;” another added, “Regardless, you must choose a side. And Trump is a criminal, so there’s no good choice there.
Originating from Minnesota, this individual published an impartial article following the endorsement of Harris by his fellow Avengers cast members – a coalition that included Scarlett Johansson, Robert Downey Jr., Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, Paul Bettany, Don Cheadle, and Danai Gurira. They collaborated on a video to express their backing for her presidential aspirations.
Pratt’s father-in-law Arnold Schwarzenegger on Wednesday publicly endorsed Harris for president.
As a lifestyle enthusiast, allow me to share my personal perspective: In the grand tapestry of life, I’ve always identified as an American first and foremost. This week, I find myself casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, a testament to my commitment to our nation’s values and future.
Arnold Schwarzenegger stated that another term for President Trump would mean “four more years of empty rhetoric without any tangible achievements, leaving us increasingly frustrated, polarized, and hostile.
Let’s put an end to this phase of American history, but I’m aware that ex-President Trump won’t comply. Instead, he’ll stir up divisions, hurl insults, and continue to act in ways that go against American values. All we, the public, will receive is more hostility.
In his article, Brad Pitt shared insights about being a responsible citizen, regardless of who occupies the office.
Transitioning towards being a society that embraces honorable victories and gracious defeats begins by acknowledging that regardless of the outcome, there will always be individuals requiring assistance within our nation. This realization calls for us to actively seek out these people and offer our service to them.
Pratt urged both parties to ‘accept the results and focus instead on showing up for each other.’
Pratt shared a story about a wrestling match he lost as a child. He wept profusely for over an hour before understanding that losing is just a natural aspect of playing the game.
Keeping that thought in focus, Pratt pondered over current individuals, observing that he believes a substantial number of them are still unaware of that particular lesson.
Occasionally, your team may not come out on top, noted Pratt. As I pen these words, we are just three days away from the 2024 presidential election. The grandest matchup ever draws near.
‘Team Red versus Team Blue. A rematch for the ages. A showdown four years in the making. It’s giving UFC 3Million energy.’
As a devoted husband, I’m eagerly anticipating the arrival of our third child with my wonderful wife, Katherine Schwarzenegger, who is currently 34 years old. We are already blessed parents to our daughters Lyla Maria, aged four, and Eloise Christina, who is two. Beyond that, I am a proud father to Jack Pratt, my 12-year-old son from my previous marriage with the talented actress Anna Faris, who is currently 47 years old.
In the past, I’ve faced criticism concerning my political and religious beliefs, particularly during 2019 when Elliot Page publicly stated that I was associated with a church notoriously opposed to the LGBTQ+ community. (It has been reported that I am a member of Zoe Church in Los Angeles.)
Prior to the 2020 election featuring Donald Trump against President Joe Biden, he earned the nickname “Hollywood’s Least Favorite Chris” online due to suspicions about his conservative political views.
Back in October 2020, Katherine expressed her thoughts on E! News’ Instagram post regarding the story, stating, “Isn’t there more important news to focus on right now? The world is facing numerous challenges, and many people are struggling severely.
Showing unkindness is outdated. There’s plenty of space for kindness towards everyone. Kindness, not rudeness or intimidation, is what we all require. Let’s strive for that instead.
Amidst the noise and commotion, several of Chris Pratt’s Marvel co-stars, including Mark Ruffalo, Josh Brolin, and Robert Downey Jr., along with his brother-in-law Patrick Schwarzenegger, voiced their support for Pratt by making public statements that defended his personality.
A year later, Pratt found himself in a tricky situation once again, following a November 2021 social media post that attracted criticism. The post thanked Katherine for delivering a ‘healthy’ child, yet their son Jack had faced numerous health challenges after being born two months early, weighing just three pounds and twelve ounces.
In 2022, Pratt expressed his profound dismay over the inappropriate response, pointing out that he worried Jack might someday come across it… and once it’s online, it stays there forever.
