As a dedicated cinema-goer and music lover, I have attended countless concerts throughout my life, each one leaving me with memories that I cherish dearly. However, the recent incident at Coldplay’s concert in Athens, Greece, has left me feeling uneasy and saddened.
During a Coldplay performance in Greece, Chris Martin momentarily halted the show when a man carrying an Israeli flag attempted to storm the stage. However, he didn’t make it past security and ended up tripping over equipment, causing some of the lighting to come crashing down.
“Halt, halt! Look out, my fellow band members,” Martin warned, noticing the man stumble into a roped-off section at Athens Olympic Stadium, later revealed to be controversial Israeli comedian Guy Hochman.
Hochman said on Instagram that he suffered an injury to a rib on his right side due to the fall.
On a Sunday, as Coldplay were halfway through their performance of “Beautiful,” an unusual collaboration took place. Joining them was Angel Moon, a puppet artistically crafted by Jim Henson’s Creature Shop for this very occasion.
As I watched Angel Moon’s breathtaking performance during “Biutyful,” I couldn’t help but feel a pang of disappointment as the music suddenly stopped, just as she was about to reach her highest note. The footage from that night shows Martin and Jonny Buckland rushing to the edge of the stage, their concerned eyes scanning the crowd below for any sign of Angel. At one moment, Martin reached out, extending a hand in an attempt to help her up from her fall.
The band had no additional comment Friday, its representatives told The Times.
Coldplay’s Music of the Spheres World Tour by Coldplay will carry on into the autumn months. Their new release, titled “itfeelslikeimfallinginlove,” is set to drop on June 21.
In an Instagram post written in Hebrew and later translated, Hochman admitted that he wasn’t familiar with Coldplay’s music but had been tasked with carrying out a specific plan despite the stunt’s failure.
In one aspect, Hochman detailed the actions he took that brought him close to achieving his goal. Yet, he admitted to tripping and getting injured in the process.
An essential part of Hochman’s strategy involved repeating the phrase “Bring Them Home,” which symbolically called for the safe return of the hostages caught up in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas.
In December, Hochman faced criticism for making insensitive remarks about deceased Palestinians involving racist humor during the ongoing conflict.
The conflict initiated on October 7 when Hamas carried out attacks against Israel, resulting in the deaths of over 1,200 people and approximately 240 hostages. This provoked a response from Israel in the Gaza Strip. According to the Health Ministry in Gaza, which is part of the Hamas administration, around 36,000 Palestinians have lost their lives thus far, with many being women and children. The entire population of Gaza is grappling with food shortages, and roughly half of them are at risk of severe hunger and potential famine, as reported by international health experts.
