Chris Hemsworth’s Crime 101 Ends Chris Pratt’s Mercy’s No. 1 Run on Prime Video

Chris Hemsworth and Chris Pratt are two of the most well-known actors today. Having previously shared the screen as Thor and Star-Lord in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, their recent projects are now competing for viewers on Prime Video.

Despite both actors having previously starred in successful films, 2026 proved to be a challenging year for them, with their only recent successes coming from streaming platforms. Hemsworth’s latest project is currently performing much better than Pratt’s poorly received science fiction film, Mercy.

Chris Hemsworth & Chris Pratt’s New Films Are at Odds on Amazon

The new film Crime 101, starring Mark Ruffalo and Halle Berry, quickly rose to the top of streaming charts. It debuted at number one on its second day and was the most-watched film in 29 countries. By April 3rd, its popularity had nearly doubled, making it number one in 51 countries.

The chart-topping run of Mercy was brief. Released in theaters on January 23rd and on Prime Video on March 22nd, the film managed to reach number one, but only for a single week.

Both movies didn’t perform well in theaters. One film, released on February 13th, skipped theaters altogether and went straight to streaming. While it earned $71.7 million worldwide, this wasn’t enough to make it a success. The film cost $90 million to produce, and needed to make around $225 million just to cover its costs, meaning it ultimately lost money.

Despite receiving perfect reviews on Rotten Tomatoes initially, and maintaining a strong 89% ‘Certified Fresh’ rating from 186 critics, the film hasn’t performed well commercially.

As a film buff, I’ve been hearing a lot of good things about this one! Everyone seems to agree it’s a fantastic story, and the director clearly paid homage to classic L.A. noir films. It’s not just the critics either – audiences are loving it too, giving it an 85% approval rating. People are especially impressed with the whole cast and how entertaining the movie is.

Okay, so Chris Pratt’s latest, Mercy, really didn’t connect with audiences, unfortunately. It cost a hefty $60 million to make, but only brought in about $54.3 million worldwide. Critics weren’t impressed either – it’s sitting at a pretty low 25% on review aggregators, based on 178 reviews. Interestingly, though, regular moviegoers seemed to like it a lot more, giving it an 82% rating! It’s definitely one of those films where the audience and critics didn’t quite see eye-to-eye.

Is Chris Pratt Reuniting With Chris Hemsworth in Avengers: Doomsday?

Okay, so Chris Pratt definitely faced some criticism with his last project, but I’m thrilled to see him killing it right now with The Super Mario Galaxy Movie! It just came out on April 1st, and it’s already a huge hit – it made $59 million in the US already, which is even better than the first Super Mario Bros. Movie did when it started. That first one made over $1.3 billion worldwide, so this is a fantastic start for the sequel! I’m really excited for this one.

Marvel is bringing the Avengers back together for a new film, Avengers: Doomsday, scheduled to release on December 18th. Chris Hemsworth will definitely return as Thor for this big event. While Chris Pratt’s return as Star-Lord was hinted at in a post-credits scene from 2023’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, it hasn’t been officially confirmed yet.

Crime 101 and Mercy are streaming on Prime Video.
