Chris Hemsworth will reprise his role as Thor in the 2026 film *Avengers: Doomsday*. He last appeared as the character in 2022’s *Thor: Love and Thunder*, where he teamed up with others to save Asgardian children who had been kidnapped.
While at the BFI London Film Festival to discuss her new film, *Hedda*, Thompson spoke about her experience working with Chris Hemsworth on the *Thor* movies. Hemsworth is well-known for playing Thor in four *Thor* films and several *Avengers* movies.
When discussing her *Thor* co-star, Chris Hemsworth, actress Emma Thompson described him as a playfully energetic person – like “a baby with muscles.” She noted he’s incredibly uninhibited and willing to try anything for a laugh or to explore new ideas, making him a joy to work with. Thompson also felt his youthful spirit was perfect for the *Thor* films.
Thompson admitted that making those films can feel silly at times. She explained that the process demands a completely imaginative mindset, requiring her to approach it with the playful spirit of a child. She specifically chose the role of Valkyrie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe because she wanted to try making that kind of movie and see if she was capable of it. Ultimately, she found the experience incredibly liberating and enjoyable.
Hemsworth’s Take on the Comedic Nature of the Last Thor Movie
The *Thor* movies, particularly the fourth one – *Thor: Love and Thunder* – leaned heavily into comedy. This playful approach divided fans, with some enjoying the lightheartedness and others feeling it didn’t fit the character. Despite earning over $760 million globally, the film’s comedic tone may have been why it didn’t fully connect with all Marvel enthusiasts.
So, Chris Hemsworth was talking about *Love and Thunder* and apparently a lot of my friends and family thought it was way too funny. They dug the action, but said the special effects weren’t quite up to par with the other *Thor* movies. He basically said we all just had too much fun making it and it ended up being… well, a little *too* silly, honestly. We got carried away!
Hemsworth explained that leading a film can be difficult because it’s hard to stay objective about the work. He enjoys the filmmaking process and finds it exciting, but it’s always uncertain how audiences will react.
