Chris Hemsworth recently gave fans a first glimpse of his new thriller, Kockroach, which also stars Taron Egerton and Zazie Beetz. Directed by Matt Ross, who made Captain Fantastic, the movie centers on a puzzling stranger who enters New York City’s criminal world.
The actor, known for his roles in Marvel films and recently appearing in Crime 101, shared an update with his fans about his new movie, which has begun filming in Australia.
I just saw the coolest Instagram post! Chris Hemsworth shared a pic with Regé-Jean Page, and they’re both totally in character. Chris is rocking a tan suit and sunglasses, even holding a cigarette, and it looks like they’re at a bar with a bunch of guys hanging out in the background. It’s giving me all the vibes for whatever project they’re working on!
In another photo, Hemsworth is seen reviewing footage from the day’s filming, and the split screen offers a glimpse of his character alongside Egerton’s.
“Kockroach. Day 1,” the caption reads, complete with an apropos cockroach emoji.

Jonathan Ames wrote the screenplay for the film, which is based on William Lashner’s 2007 novel and was further revised by Ross. Andrew Lazar (known for American Sniper) and Christina Weiss Lurie (Persuasion) produced the movie. Lazar has described it as a boundary-pushing thriller, similar in style to classic gangster films like Scarface and Goodfellas.
Last October, Lazar predicted that director Matt Ross’s film, Kockroach, would be as groundbreaking and influential as classic gangster movies like Scarface and Goodfellas.

The movie’s cast has changed since it was first announced. Originally, Oscar Isaac and Channing Tatum were set to star, but they had to leave the project due to other commitments. They’ve been replaced by Taron Egerton and Chris Hemsworth.
The ensemble is rounded out by Beetz, Alec Baldwin and Rachel Sennott.
Inspired by Lasher’s novel, which itself is a fresh take on Franz Kafka’s classic story The Metamorphosis, Kockroach follows a mysterious newcomer who rises through New York City’s criminal ranks, becoming a powerful and notorious crime boss in a city obsessed with power.
Kockroach doesn’t have a release date yet.
