Chris Hemsworth Admits Thor Would Lose a Fight To 1 MCU Character

Chris Hemsworth played Thor in eight Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) films, making the character one of Marvel’s strongest heroes. Over the course of the Thor series, from the first film to Thor: Love and Thunder, and including his role in Avengers: Doomsday (released December 18th), we saw Thor evolve from a boastful prince into a dedicated protector. Despite all his experience in battle, Hemsworth thinks Thor wouldn’t be able to defeat one particularly powerful MCU character.

So, I was checking out some interviews from the Australian press tour for Chris Hemsworth’s new movie, Crime 101, and this content creator named Sami Haidar asked him a fun question: who’d win in a fight between Thor and Scarlet Witch? Hemsworth didn’t even have to think about it – he immediately said, “Probably Wanda.”

Chris Hemsworth’s comments match what’s been happening in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Elizabeth Olsen’s character, Wanda Maximoff, has grown from someone with special abilities to a powerful magic user who can alter reality itself, as shown in several films and series.

The Disney+ series WandaVision established Wanda Maximoff as the Scarlet Witch, a powerful being who wields Chaos Magic and can alter reality. She used her powers to construct an entire alternate reality within Westview, effectively trapping thousands of people and living out a fabricated sitcom life within it.

Okay, so Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness really let Wanda Maximoff, the Scarlet Witch, go. It was insane! She wasn’t just powerful, she was on another level, hopping between universes in her dreams and taking on multiple versions of sorcerers at once. And the biggest shock? She absolutely wiped out the Illuminati – I mean, Captain Carter, Black Bolt, Reed Richards, Captain Marvel, even Professor X… all gone. It was a brutal display of power, and honestly, a little terrifying.

Thor is famously strong and tough, and he can control lightning. In Thor: Love and Thunder, he even briefly used Thunderbolt, the powerful weapon of Zeus. Despite his impressive powers, Wanda is actually more powerful than Thor within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Scarlet Witch is in a league of her own. While Thor relies on physical strength and energy blasts, Wanda Maximoff can fundamentally change reality, alter matter, control thoughts, and even erase things from existence simply by thinking about it.

Wanda vs Thor Is a Close Match-up in the Comics

In the comics, Thor generally has an advantage over Wanda. Although Wanda Maximoff could potentially cause more widespread destruction, Thor’s godly body and long history of fighting give him a significant edge and make him a formidable opponent.

Looking at their pasts, it’s clear that Wanda has the power to change reality itself, but Thor is strong enough to withstand those changes, unlike most beings.

Many believe Scarlet Witch is one of the most powerful characters due to her ability to warp reality, famously shown in the House of M storyline. With just a few words, Wanda was able to strip powers from millions of mutants, proving she could essentially erase threats from existence.

While this might seem like a way to beat Thor, it’s important to remember he wasn’t around during the House of M storyline. He was missing from the Marvel Universe after the events of Ragnarok.

We’ve never explored how a current version of Thor – one with the powerful Thor-Force that can alter reality – would handle a magical curse affecting the entire world.

Thor has consistently proven difficult to change magically or alter his very being. His powers as a god seem to protect him from forces that would normally rewrite reality.

Thor Will Receive a Power Upgrade in Doomsday

Even though Chris Hemsworth says he’s trying to stay grounded, the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday suggests Thor is about to reach a new level of power. The latest trailer shows a Thor who’s moved past recent jokes and is now dealing with the serious responsibilities of raising his adopted daughter, Love. This gives him a lot to fight for, making him a potentially much stronger hero.

The latest preview shows a battle-scarred Thor calling upon the power of past rulers to fight one last war to protect his child. This suggests we might see Rune King Thor appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, or that Thor will fully unlock the Odinforce.

Thor’s priorities have changed as a father. He’s moved beyond seeking glory or revenge and is now fighting to protect others, a purpose greater than himself. This transformation from a warrior to a protector might allow him to reach a level of power comparable to Wanda Maximoff’s Chaos Magic, potentially making him as formidable as the Scarlet Witch.
