Chris Evans is returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe for Avengers: Doomsday

As a long-time Marvel fan who has witnessed the incredible evolution of the cinematic universe since the early days of Iron Man, I can’t help but feel a sense of anticipation and curiosity about the upcoming events. The rumors suggesting Chris Evans’ return to the MCU in Avengers: Doomsday have certainly caught my attention, and it’s intriguing to see Robert Downey Jr.’s comeback as Doctor Doom after years as Iron Man.

For nearly eight years, Chris Evans played Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, starting with “Captain America: The First Avenger” in 2011 and continuing through to “Avengers: Endgame” in 2019. This marked the end of his character’s journey. However, rumors indicate that he may return for “Avengers: Doomsday,” one of the upcoming significant events in the Marvel Universe. Additionally, Evans previously reprised his role as Johnny Storm, the hero from the “Fantastic Four” (2005), in “Deadpool & Wolverine.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, a highly trusted entertainment source, this information isn’t just a rumor. At the moment, it’s undecided whether Chris Evans will portray Steve Rogers/Captain America, Johnny Storm/Human Torch, or another character altogether. However, given that Robert Downey Jr. has chosen to return as Doctor Doom after spending years as Iron Man, it seems likely that Evans may reprise his roles as either Steve Rogers or Johnny Storm in the future.

In my opinion, Johnny Storm appears to be a more suitable choice. Steve Rogers had a fitting end in “Endgame”. Additionally, if Evans were to reprise the role of Captain America, it would clash with Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson already taking on the role. Mackie will first appear as Cap in February 2025 in “Captain America: Brave New World”.

Evans has expressed his willingness to reprise the role of Captain America, but there are certain concerns he has about this prospect. He explained to GQ magazine in 2023 that he wouldn’t want the negative impact if it seemed like a money-grab, or if it didn’t meet expectations, or if it simply felt disconnected from its original source material.

The lineup for the upcoming film, Avengers: Doomsday , appears to be shaping up quite impressively. As of now, it’s said that this movie will feature Anthony Mackie as Captain America, Robert Downey Jr. taking on Doctor Doom, Benedict Cumberbatch portraying Doctor Strange, Tom Holland as Spider-Man, Pedro Pascal playing Mr. Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby in the role of Sue Storm, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach bringing The Thing to life.

Kraven the Hunter may be the last of Sony’s Spider-Man villain movies

As a diehard cinema enthusiast, I can hardly contain my excitement as Avengers: Doomsday, set to grace our screens on May 1, 2026, approaches. Until then, there’s a tantalizing morsel to satiate my craving for Marvel action – Kraven the Hunter. This isn’t your typical Marvel blockbuster, but it’s part of Sony’s ongoing series of films centered around Spider-Man villains, without our friendly neighborhood wall-crawler himself. It’s now playing in cinemas near you!

It appears that the “Venom” films have been successful for Sony, but movies such as “Morbius” and “Madame Web” have flopped. There’s a strong chance that “Kraven the Hunter” will follow this trend. A source from Sony, who spoke to TheWrap, suggests that “Kraven” might be the last of these films that Sony releases, as they are reportedly not good.

As a dedicated film enthusiast, I’ve noticed a troubling pattern with the Sony Spider-Man spinoffs. It appears that consistent quality control might have been overlooked in their production process, resulting in movies that simply don’t live up to expectations. Occasionally, this lack of quality intersects with a film that wasn’t even on our wishlist, such as Madame Web, which unfortunately sets us up for disappointment every time.

Rather than producing a “Kraven the Hunter” film, Sony will shift their attention towards creating a fresh Spider-Man movie featuring Tom Holland. This new project seems more promising in terms of success, so savor the Kraven the Hunter and similar films during this time.
