Chris Evans breaks silence on Captain America return for new Avengers movie
Chris Evans has reacted to the latest news about him reprising his role in Avengers: Doomsday, potentially as Steve Rogers/Captain America, or possibly another character.
According to an article published by Deadline in December, it was confirmed that the actor has agreed to join forces for Marvel’s upcoming ensemble movie, scheduled for release next year.
In an article featuring Anthony Mackie for “Captain America: Brave New World” by Esquire, they inquired about the report with Evans, and he asserted it wasn’t true.
He corrected, “It’s actually untrue, but this incident is quite common. In fact, it has occurred approximately every few years – starting from the release of ‘Endgame’. Frankly, I’ve grown tired of addressing it. Absolutely not – I’m contentedly enjoying my retirement!
Mackie himself said he “didn’t know!” about Evans’ apparent return until he saw that report.
He shared that he spoke with Chris a few weeks prior and at that time, the topic wasn’t under discussion. To be precise, Chris didn’t mention it to him because he explicitly asked about it. Essentially, he said something like, “You know, they mentioned everyone returning for the movie. Are you coming back?” And Chris replied with a sense of contentment, “Oh, you know, I’m enjoying my retirement.
If Evans is telling untruths, it wouldn’t be unprecedented for an actor to claim they aren’t rejoining the Marvel Cinematic Universe when in fact they are.
In another part of the article published in Esquire, Mackie shared his estimated duration with the franchise as his character Sam Wilson takes on the role of Captain America and heads a film of his own.
He predicted it would last about a decade,” he remarked. “You’ll see the two Avengers movies, Doomsday and Secret Wars, another potential Captain America installment, and then perhaps some unexpected additions like ‘Spider-Man!’, ‘Fantastic Four!’, it seems they’ve joined the crew.
“But you never know. I mean, I don’t want to be a 60-year-old Captain America.”
In movie theaters starting February 14, 2025, you can catch “Captain America: A New World”. If you haven’t seen them yet, don’t forget to check out the initial Captain America films and “The Falcon and The Winter Soldier” on Disney+ streaming platform.
