Chris Evans’ 2017 drama becomes a Netflix hit
As a devoted movie enthusiast who has witnessed countless cinematic masterpieces spanning decades, I must say that Gifted has undeniably left an indelible mark on my heart and mind. This captivating drama, featuring the exceptional talents of Chris Evans and Mckenna Grace, has proven to be a timeless treasure, even seven years after its initial release.
Seven years past its initial release, I can’t help but marvel at the enduring success of “Gifted” – the gripping Netflix drama that stars Chris Evans and Mckenna Grace. It’s a testament to the power of great storytelling and acting!
2017’s movie tells the story of Mary (Grace), a brilliantly intelligent 7-year-old girl. After the unfortunate demise of her mother, she finds herself embroiled in a contentious custody dispute between her uncle, Frank (Evans), and her grandmother, Evelyn (Lindsay Duncan).
Initially, the movie became both a hit among critics and audiences, earning an impressive $43 million globally on a production budget of merely $7 million. However, its popularity has since been rekindled after it was made available on the streaming platform, Netflix.
Based on the viewership statistics of the streaming platform, it appears that many fans have been drawn to watch the drama as it climbed to the third position in the Global Top 10 movie chart, accumulating a total of 9.9 million views from September 16 onwards.
The accomplishment is even more noteworthy considering that “Uglies” and “Rebel Ridge,” both fresh offerings from the streaming platform, were the only movies to surpass “Gifted” in terms of viewership after earning 26.8 million and 16.7 million views respectively.
Beyond achieving a place among the Global Top 10, the game called Gifted also gained popularity in a total of 76 nations, even managing to claim the number one position in Argentina, Canada, Denmark, the Netherlands, and various other countries.
Although the film “Gifted” has been a hit for Evans, its star, who is well-known for portraying Steve Rogers/Captain America, revealed a touch of discontentment with his latest project, the Apple TV+ movie titled “Ghosted,” where he shares screen time with Ana de Armas.
Speaking about the film “Ghosted,” he remarked that it reminded him of a movie from his childhood, one that seems less common today. He wondered if perhaps audiences no longer appreciate such films. However, I didn’t believe that was the case before, and I don’t think so now either.
Though critics weren’t fond of it, our performance in terms of viewership was acceptable, technically speaking. The unfavorable reviews might be more a reflection of the movie itself rather than audience interest. I believe the audience would respond positively if the presentation was improved. We could have performed better ourselves.
Gifted is streaming in selected countries on Netflix.
