Chris Brown, Live Nation hit with $50-million lawsuit after alleged attack in Texas
As a long-time movie buff and follower of the music industry, I have seen my fair share of troubled celebrities, but Chris Brown’s case is particularly disheartening. The recent $50-million lawsuit against him for allegedly attacking and brutally beating four men after his concert in Fort Worth, Texas, is just the latest addition to a long list of legal issues that the R&B star has faced throughout his career.
A $50-million lawsuit has been filed against Chris Brown, claiming that he and his group physically assaulted and severely battered four individuals following his concert performance at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas, as part of his “11:11” tour.
On Monday in Harris County, a lawsuit was submitted, including Brown, Live Nation Worldwide, Sinko Ceej, Hood Boss, and Yella Beezy as defendants. The complainants – Larry Parker, Joseph Lewis, Charles Bush, and Damarcus Powell – have been granted a temporary restraining order and requested a preliminary injunction to prevent the defendants from erasing or altering documents and data associated with the July 19 occurrence, based on court records obtained by The Times.
Live Nation and Brown’s representatives didn’t react to The Times’ comments request on Tuesday.
Last night, we officially initiated a legal action against Chris Brown and his team, claiming they viciously assaulted several men in Fort Worth on Saturday night following the entertainer’s concert. According to attorney Tony Buzbee’s Instagram statement released Monday.
“Several police statements have been filed, with one injured man still receiving medical treatment in the hospital,” Buzbee declared. “It’s documented that Chris Brown has a past filled with violence and has been taken into custody or implicated in assault allegations at least ten times. That’s enough.”
Buzbee, who recently defended Rebecca Grossman in her murder trial in Los Angeles resulting in a 15-years to life sentence, expressed that the purpose of filing this lawsuit was to seek justice for the victims and permanently halt the offensive and violent conduct depicted in it.
On Taylor, the lawyer and his team failed to provide additional remarks when The Times reached out to them on Tuesday.
According to the Austin American-Statesman’s report, an assault is claimed to have taken place backstage after Brown’s concert, with four men being the alleged victims. The meeting with Brown was supposed to begin 30 minutes earlier but he was delayed. The men assert that the attack came unexpectedly and without provocation. They further allege that Brown and his group surrounded them, threw chairs, kicked, stomped, and assaulted them.
At the age of 35, the well-known entertainer has a past filled with legal disputes. He lost public favor in 2009 when he physically harmed his then-partner, singer Rihanna. For this incident, he admitted guilt and reached a plea deal. However, his name continued to make news after sentencing until he completed his probation in 2015. Moreover, he disobeyed the restraining order by attending a 2012 party hosted by Rihanna. In 2017, he was instructed to keep a distance from his former girlfriend, actress Karrueche Tran.
In 2012, Brown got into a fight at a New York nightclub with rapper Drake and former NBA player Tony Parker. The following year, in Los Angeles, Brown was involved in another dispute, this time with singer Frank Ocean. According to reports, Brown allegedly attacked Ocean after an argument over a parking space at a recording studio, using both physical force and threatening him with a gun. In 2013, Brown was apprehended in Washington D.C., charged with felony assault following an incident near the W Hotel, during which he and his bodyguard were implicated.
In 2018, a woman accused the R&B singer of sexually assaulting her multiple times at his house party, which reportedly involved guns and drugs. In 2019, he was arrested in Paris due to rape allegations. Another woman filed a lawsuit against him in 2022, claiming that she was drugged and raped on a yacht in Miami.
A hearing for his latest case has been set for Aug. 4 in Houston.
I’ve noticed that Brown has mentioned the impact of his legal issues on his professional journey, yet he hasn’t let that stop him from putting out new music and going on tour. Last year, in 2022, he took to Instagram to share a heartfelt message with his devoted fanbase.
“Look at the crowd, every performance is full to the brim…,” he originally wrote in all caps, later edited. “Without my amazing fans, I would have given up long ago… I dislike the phony celebrity scene… Award shows haven’t allowed me to perform for years… yet my shows continue to sell out. Let me shine.”
