Chris Brown arrested in U.K. for allegedly smashing tequila bottle over music producer’s head in 2023

Two years ago, Chris Brown is being held accountable for an alleged incident at a London nightclub where he supposedly broke a tequila bottle over a music producer’s head. On Thursday morning, the R&B artist was taken into custody regarding this matter.

The Metropolitan Police stated on Thursday, through various media outlets, that they apprehended the contentious singer of “Under the Influence,” who is 36 years old, at a hotel in Manchester, England, for suspected grievous bodily harm. He currently remains in custody. Brown was taken into custody due to his alleged part in an incident at Hanover Square’s venue in February 2023, as per Forbes and the Guardian.

Despite the police not offering further information about the incident or its location, the accusation mirrors claims made by music producer Amadou “Abe” Diaw against Brown in a lawsuit filed in October 2023. At the time of The Times’ request for comment on Thursday, a representative for the Grammy winner had not yet responded.

Officers have recognized Sabino Casio, aged 41, currently serving a life term for homicide, as the individual allegedly responsible for attacking rapper Tory Lanez with a homemade weapon resembling a shank.

Over two years ago, Brown was taken into custody following accusations that he had severely attacked Diaw by striking him repeatedly on the head with a bottle of Don Julio 1942 Tequila at the TAPE nightclub in London. As outlined in the lawsuit examined by The Times, the charges against Brown include assault, battery, and causing emotional distress. Besides Brown, other parties named as defendants in the lawsuit filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court are Live Nation, Sony, RCA Records, another musician, and others.

According to a 13-page legal document, Diaw asserts that he and his companion entered the nightclub and observed Brown and another musician approaching them in what appeared to be a friendly manner. However, things escalated when Brown, who has had multiple accusations of assault, including pleading guilty to attacking his ex-girlfriend Rihanna, is said to have struck Diaw repeatedly on the head with a tequila bottle. The lawsuit states that Brown hit the top left side of Diaw’s head three times in this incident. Diaw alleges that Brown inflicted severe and lasting injuries by smashing his head with the bottle and continued to cruelly stomp on him while he lay unconscious on the nightclub floor after the bottle attack. Additionally, it is claimed that the other artist accompanying Brown kicked Diaw in his stomach and legs during the altercation.

The nightclub personnel stepped in, escorting Diaw out of the premises. As stated in the lawsuit, Diaw sustained wounds on his head and torn ligaments in his leg, which resulted in double vision and intense leg pain. He requires ongoing medical care and rehabilitation to manage these conditions.

Halle Bailey obtains a short-term protective order from her former partner, DDG, who is the father of their one-year-old son, Halo. According to Halle, DDG has been verbally and emotionally abusive.

The assault with a bottle was recorded on nightclub security cameras and the Metropolitan Police obtained the video footage, according to the complaint. Additionally, Diaw alleges that Brown and the other defendants engaged in defamatory actions by spreading untrue rumors about his clients and attempting to damage their professional relationships by falsely accusing him of theft.

In this lawsuit, Diaw is asking for compensation exceeding $25,000, covering medical bills, lost income, and any other court-deemed suitable relief. The next court hearing related to the case has been scheduled for May 30th. A jury trial, set to commence in June 2026, has also been arranged, as indicated by legal records.

On Thursday, Ryan J. Daneshrad, legal representative of Diaw, issued a statement to The Times, which we’ve been given access to. In this statement, he confirmed that Chris Brown was part of an altercation with their client. The wounds inflicted during the incident are severe.

On Tuesday, I find myself standing before a courtroom, testifying about my 2016 harrowing ordeal – the armed robbery that left me with chilling memories. I can assure you, it wasn’t an exaggeration when I say that night, I truly believed my life was slipping away from me.

Daneschrad stated that we’re taking every possible legal action to make sure he faces consequences for his actions. For now, we’ll allow the facts to be presented in court.

Before starting his Breezy Bowl 20th Anniversary Tour in June, Brown was taken into custody. Kicking off the tour, the artist will take the stage on June 8 in Amsterdam for the first of many live performances. Following this, he has scheduled three shows in Manchester on the 15th, 16th, and 24th of June.

Following his European tour, Brown is scheduled to return to the U.S., starting from July 30 with a performance in Miami. His stadium tour will make its way to Los Angeles’s SoFi Stadium on September 13 and 14.
