Chovy and Ruler sign three-year contract with Gen.G
As a dedicated fan who has witnessed the evolution of Gen.G since its humble beginnings as KSV eSports, I must say that the 2025 roster announcement left me absolutely thrilled! The addition of Ruler and Duro to the team feels like a homecoming, especially with Ruler returning to his old stomping grounds after a brief sojourn in the LPL.
For the year 2025, Gen.G finalized their team composition with a stellar lineup. They have re-signed players like Kiin, Canyon, and Chovy, and also welcomed newcomers Ruler and Duro to the squad.
Gen.G, the Korean esports team, made the announcement on their official X account that Jeong “Chovy” Ji-hoon and Park “Ruler” Jae-hyuk have been contractually bound to them until 2027. These talented mid-laner and bot-laner will aim to dominate the League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK) with an exceptional team lineup. The anticipated return of Ruler to the Korean league has left fans eagerly anticipating next year’s competition.
Ruler’s return to Gen.G
Initially, the player known as Ruler was associated with a team that wasn’t yet called Gen.G; it was previously known as KSV eSports. The transformation to Gen.G occurred in 2018, as we recognize it today. During the years ranging from 2016 to 2022, Ruler was a key member of their roster, but he decided to depart the Korean league and join JD Gaming in the League of Legends Pro League (LPL). After spending two years away, Ruler returned to his former home, Gen.G, in Korea. Now, one of the most esteemed ADCs from Korea, as fans often refer to him, has signed a three-year contract with the team once more.
Duro replaces Lehends
In relation to the vacant support position left by Son “Lehends” Si-woo, who was part of Gen.G for a year and 19 days, Joo “Duro” Min-kyu is stepping in as his replacement. This 22-year-old Korean player made his LCK debut in 2021, having departed from BNK FearX. He will now represent Gen.G following his departure. Notably, Duro represented his country at the Esports Championships East Asia 2023 and secured a 2-0 victory against China.
Kiin, Canyon, and Chovy will keep going
For the remaining members, Kim “Kiin”, Kim “Canyon”, and Chovy have all extended their agreements with Gen.G, ensuring they’ll be part of the squad for 2025. Similar to Ruler, Chovy will continue his career with the Korean team for another three years. They displayed remarkable performance in the initial LCK season, made it to the finals during the second split, and competed at League of Legends Worlds 2024 (LoL Worlds).
