Chinese social media personality Zhu Mingyue passed away last Thursday at 41 years old after a prolonged struggle with cancer.
The sad news was first shared on Mingyue’s Douyin account—a platform similar to TikTok—on Monday.
Mingyue, also known as Mi Duo, passed away after not responding to treatment, according to a statement posted on her social media, as reported by Sina News.
Mingyue, a popular Douyin user with over 100,000 followers, revealed in late 2024 that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer, according to reports.
Mingyue, originally from Harbin, China, graduated from Harbin Normal University in 2002 and went on to achieve success in business and social media. She is remembered by her husband and their three children.
Mingyue’s daughter remembered her mother facing a year and a half of difficult illness. Despite experiencing intense pain, her mother stayed positive and courageous throughout.
The influencer remained strong in spirit into her final days, her daughter said.
Just days before her mother died, Mingyue was already losing her sight and having trouble speaking, but she still focused on comforting others, showing how selfless she was, her daughter explained.
Her daughter recalled that even while sick, her mother comforted her, saying, ‘Don’t cry, sweetie. Things are hard right now, but I’ll feel better soon.’
Her daughter wrote in her mother’s obituary that Mingyue devoted her life to caring for others, often at the expense of her own well-being.
Mingyue’s daughter opened up on the brave way her mother battled the deadly ailment.
Mingyue’s daughter explained that her mother was a fiercely independent woman who never let sickness defeat her. Even throughout chemotherapy and radiation treatment, she endured countless blood tests, eventually making it very difficult for nurses to find a vein.
Even though it clearly hurt her deeply, Mingyue was incredibly determined. I’ve always admired how she just pushed through everything, never even thinking about quitting. It’s that kind of strength that really inspires me.
She explained that watching her mother suffer was incredibly painful, and she felt a mix of sadness and longing for the happy times they’d shared. Her mother had always been strong, once telling them, ‘As long as I’m alive, you three will still have your mother.’
The sad news about Mingyue follows several other recent deaths of social media personalities this March.
Carolina Reyes, a 23-year-old Colombian influencer known as ‘Carol the Warrior,’ passed away on March 11th after fighting cancer.
I was absolutely heartbroken to hear about Karla Thaynnara. She was such a bright light, and to lose her at just 25 in a motorcycle accident back in March was devastating. Sadly, the tragedy didn’t end there. I later learned that her father, José Carlos Andrade Nogueira, couldn’t cope with the loss and took his own life. It’s just… an unimaginable amount of pain for one family.
Brazilian influencer Larissa da Silva Machado died in a motorcycle accident on March 27th at the age of 30. Authorities reported she lost control of her Honda CG 160 Titan in Manaus, Brazil.
Taiwanese influencer Wang Wei-Chien passed away in March at the age of 29, following a five-year battle with lymphoma.
