Chilling new UK drama with adored cast of actors sets release date with tense first-look trailer
Channel 5’s upcoming crime drama The Trial has landed a release date and a tense new trailer.
In a unique television event, Claire Skinner from “Outnumbered” and Ben Miles of “The Crown” portray Dione and David Sinclair, a couple whose world is shattered when their teenage daughter Teah (India Fowler from “The Agency”) is involved in a severe crime.
In a future world where parents bear responsibility for their children’s behavior, Dione and David find themselves under intense scrutiny, being questioned about their upbringing, habits, and past choices. If proven culpable, they might serve time in prison for the rest of their lives.

Excitedly, I can confirm that “The Trial” is officially set to premiere at 9 pm on Channel 5, this coming 8th of May. You’ll also have the convenience of streaming it anytime on My5!
The scene starts off with Dione and David nervously sitting in a vacant courtroom. Then, they are approached by Sarah Willis, portrayed by actress Saoirse-Monica Jackson from Derry Girls, who is acting as the Judicial Inquisitor.
In compliance with The Milligan Act 2033, I’m being assessed here, that’s me, David or Dione Sinclair. She’s the one delivering the information.
In this investigation, we aim to find out whether Teah Grace Sinclair suffered from deliberate negligence in terms of her mental, physical, emotional, financial, and empathetic well-being, possibly even a mix of these factors.
“In the event that guilt is established, you will be charged pending further investigation.”
The Trial has been referred to as “disturbingly realistic” by Deadline, while Richelle Wilder from the production company Adorable Media labeled it as a “unique, intellectually stimulating, and emotionally stirring drama.
5’s drama commissioning editor Paul Testar commented: “This represents a thrilling shift in our drama lineup, focusing on standalone, impactful narratives that ignite discussions.
We’re thrilled to collaborate with Adorable Media, whose skilled team has crafted a compelling narrative for this captivating tale.
The Trial will air at 9pm on Channel 5 on 8 May. It will also be available to stream on My5.
