“Chilling” and “emotional” new UK crime drama confirmed with star of popular British sitcom
A gripping and moving crime drama titled “The Trial” has been unveiled, featuring the talented actress Claire Skinner in the leading role.
As a gamer immersed in an alternate reality, I find myself in a future Britain, a version of it that’s almost ours but with a twist – the law now holds parents accountable for their kids’ misdeeds. Quite a shift, don’t you think?
In the upcoming series, Skinner and Ben Miles from “The Crown” will portray the characters Dione and David Sinclair. Their tranquil life takes an unexpected turn as their teenage daughter Teah becomes entangled in a severe crime, plunging them into a harrowing ordeal.
In the story titled “The Trial“, these themes are explored: accountability, fairness in judgment, and the power of the state, as Dione and David undergo severe scrutiny regarding their upbringing, choices, and previous actions.
Additionally on board are Saoirse-Monica Jackson playing the role of Sarah Willis, the interrogator, India Fowler from The Agency portraying Teah, and Jaz Hutchins from The Return taking up the character of Lieutenant Simons.
The show was deemed “frighteningly realistic” by Deadline, and producer Richelle Wilder from Adorable Media described it as a “unique, intellectually stimulating, and emotionally charged drama.
5’s drama commissioning editor Paul Testar stated through TVZone UK: “This is a fresh move for our drama lineup, focusing on standalone, impactful narratives that stimulate discussion.
It’s a pleasure to collaborate with the talented group at Adorable Media, who have assembled an outstanding team to narrate this intriguing tale.
More recently, Skinner played a role in the “Outnumbered” Christmas special. On the other hand, Miles has been featured in shows such as ITV’s “Douglas Is Cancelled” and Apple TV+’s “Hijack” in recent years.
Upcoming, Jackson will appear on BBC’s highly-anticipated crime drama “This City Is Ours” together with Sean Bean. The show has officially announced it will air towards the end of this month.
The Trial is set to air on Channel 5, with a release date yet to be confirmed.
