Child’s Play creator promises ‘He’ll be back’ after Syfy cancels Chucky series
As a dedicated fan who’s grown up with Chucky since the ’90s, this news is as heart-wrenching as a Good Guy doll being dismembered. The third season was a thrilling ride that kept me on the edge of my seat, and I couldn’t help but root for our murderous friend.
Unfortunately, followers of the popular character Chucky the killer doll have a reason to feel down today. Despite gaining a dedicated fanbase and receiving positive reviews from critics, Syfy has chosen not to renew the show for another season, making the third season its final one, as reported by Variety.
Following on from the seventh movie in the Child’s Play series, “Cult of Chucky”, the Chucky TV show ventured into fresh territory and was a thrilling ride throughout. The people behind the series seemed genuinely passionate about this project, with franchise creator Don Mancini and Brad Dourif, the voice behind the doll, returning. Characters like Tiffany Valentine (Jennifer Tilly) and Nica Pierce (Fiona Dourif) from the films also made a comeback, while new characters added by the show were well-received by viewers.
The third season of Chucky was broadcast in two instalments. The first part premiered in October 2023, followed by part 2 which began in April and concluded with the series finale “Final Destination” on May 1st. Over the following four months, there have been talks about the series potentially returning for a brief final season or concluding the storyline through a movie. However, it appears this won’t be happening at Syfy.
However, those familiar with the Child’s Play series understand that it’s challenging to eliminate Chucky. Mancini, in a post on X (previously Twitter), referenced an article announcing the show’s termination by stating, “He’ll return.
He later followed up with another tweet saying that Chucky will be back.
I am deeply touched by how much we adore our fantastic followers. Your tireless efforts during the #RenewChucky campaign were invaluable to me amidst challenging circumstances. Chucky extends his greetings and says, as he would, “I’ll see you again soon.” ❤️🪨

It seems more likely that Chucky will make a comeback than disappear altogether, given the long-standing success of the Child’s Play franchise which started in the 1990s and continues to be well-received. At the minimum, I’m confident we can expect another Child’s Play movie in the future.

“I’m heartbroken over the news that ‘Chucky’ won’t be coming back for a fourth season, but am so grateful for the killer three years we did have.I’d like to thank UCP/SYFY/Peacock/Eat the Cat, our awesome cast and Toronto-based crew (the best in the business), and finally, to our amazing fans, a big bloody hug. Your incredible #RenewChucky campaign really warmed Chucky’s cold heart. Chucky will return! He ALWAYS come back.
You can revisit the Chucky series anytime on Peacock or Shudder.
