Chicago P.D. adds Warrior Nun actress Toya Turner to main cast of ahead of season 12… marking her third venture into One Chicago universe
As a lifestyle expert with a keen eye for spotting rising stars and a deep appreciation for actors who can seamlessly transition between different roles, I am thrilled to welcome Toya Turner to the main cast of Chicago P.D. Her journey from growing up in Chicago to making her mark on various One Chicago series is nothing short of inspiring.
Actress Toya Turner, previously known for her role in Warrior Nun, is now part of the principal cast for Chicago P.D., taking on a series regular role commencing in season 12.
As an over-the-moon fan, I can hardly contain my excitement as I’ve learned that the actress will be taking on the role of Kiana Cook – a fearless patrol officer who thrives on the thrill and high-stakes nature of her job! She’s the type who doesn’t flinch in the face of chaos, making her the perfect choice for this character. Interestingly enough, her character was initially known as Yara Page, but it seems that Kiana Cook fits her like a glove. I can hardly wait to see this fantastic actress bring Kiana Cook to life on screen!
Turner has a history with the Chicago TV universe, having appeared as different characters on both Chicago Fire and Chicago Med in the past.
The Jamaican-American actress primarily lived in Chicago during her influential years, which can be associated with the city known as “Windy City”.
As an ardent admirer, I can hardly contain my excitement about the arrival of Jesse Spencer, known for his role as Matthew Casey in Chicago Fire, to the new police procedural action series, a spin-off from the same universe. This move follows Tracy Spiridakos’s departure from NBC’s Chicago Fire after an impressive eight seasons portraying Detective Hailey Upton Halstead, seven of which were spent as a cornerstone of the main cast. I can hardly wait to see how this shift unfolds!
In the course of my acting career, I’ve had the pleasure of gracing the screens of One Chicago series on more than one occasion.
When she first appears on Chicago PD, it signifies not just her entrance to this particular show, but also her presence in three “One Chicago” series as distinct characters, which makes her one of the rare actors to play multiple roles across all three shows.
In their 33rd year, the actress portrayed Peaches, a character from the red-light district in episode four of season two. Additionally, she introduced another role, Jayna, in the first episode of season two on Chicago Med, as mentioned by Hello! magazine.
Turner was most recently seen in the Netflix series Warrior Nun.
Apart from her notable roles in films, she has also appeared frequently in TV shows like NBC’s New Amsterdam, had a guest appearance on ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy, featured in Netflix’s Easy, and graced the screens of Fox’s The Mick and Empire as per Deadline’s reports.
In 2018, her standout movie performance was in the independent film “Dead Women Walking,” which first appeared at the Tribeca Film Festival.
As a theater actress, she has performed in productions such as “Raisin in the Sun” at A Noise Within Theater in Los Angeles and “Blues for an Alabama Sky” at Court Theater in Chicago.
Chicago P.D., developed by Dick Wolf and Matt Olmstead, first appeared on NBC in the role of a mid-season replacement back in January 2014.

Chicago Police Department primarily centers around the specialized Intelligence Unit based in District 21, composed of both regular patrol officers and top-tier personnel. They work together to combat some of the city’s most serious crimes, including organized crime networks, illegal drug distribution, and high-profile homicides.
The Intelligence Unit of Chicago P.D. is headed by Hank Voight, portrayed by Jason Beghe. He’s a complex character, sometimes unpredictable, serving as the chief yet known for his tough and occasionally harsh demeanor. Despite this rough exterior, he remains a dedicated police officer.
The present team of actors features Jason Beghe as Sgt. Hank Voight, LaRoyce Hawkins portraying Officer Kevin Atwater, Marina Squerciati playing Officer Kim Burgess, Patrick John Flueger in the role of Officer Adam Ruzek, Benjamin Levy Aguilar acting as Officer Dante Torres, and Amy Morton depicting Desk Sergeant Trudy Platt.
Next Wednesday, September 25, at 10 pm Eastern Time, NBC will debut the twelfth season of Chicago P.D. on their network.
