Chicago Med’s Shocking Season 10 Finale Twist: You Won’t Believe What Happened!
Warning! The Season 10 finale of Chicago Med, airing on NBC, has spoilers. You can watch it now by subscribing to Peacock streaming service.
For years, NBC’s One Chicago Wednesdays have been notorious for leaving viewers hanging with life-or-death cliffhangers during summer breaks. Although the 2025 schedule for Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and Chicago P.D. didn’t follow this pattern, the season finale of Chicago Med left me utterly stunned. So much so that I had to set aside any pride and confess my surprise to showrunner Allen MacDonald. He disclosed that the plan for Hannah (Jessy Schram) to approach Archer’s (Steven Weber) door at the end of Season 10 was in fact a well-kept secret.
McDonald hinted at a strong performance from Oliver Platt for Dr. Charles’ storyline, and hinted that Hannah harbored secrets. However, it seems unlikely that many fans anticipated Hannah suddenly appearing on Dean’s doorstep to discuss something important after a significant amount of time had passed without her telling Ripley about her pregnancy. I was fortunate enough to catch the finale early in order to ask some questions of the showrunner.
In a rare instance, I found myself momentarily stunned and even blurted out an unexpected expletive. It was over a surprising disclosure about Captain Crunch that left me questioning my previous jokes. Could there have been more depth to him than I had jestingly suggested? I confessed to the showrunner my astonishment upon Hannah’s knock on Archer’s door, but he remained secretive about how long he had planned that plot twist.
LOL. I’m really happy to hear that you were gobsmacked! But beyond that I’m not going to comment.
If we don’t learn who the father of Hannah’s child is by the end of Season 10, it looks like we can expect a busy start to Season 11 in the fall since NBC has renewed all three One Chicago shows for another season on Wednesdays. Although showrunner Allen MacDonald didn’t provide a definitive answer about the mystery after the Season 10 finale, he did hint at a surprising detail that makes me want to rewatch certain episodes through Peacock.

In Season 10, Allen MacDonald took over as the showrunner of Chicago Med for the first time. Looking back, maybe I should have anticipated some developments regarding Ripley, Hannah, and Archer, given that he expressed his enthusiasm about handling the Hannah/Ripley storyline in the fall, noting their “definitely unique” relationship. More recently, when I asked him about when he had been eager to incorporate the Season 10 finale twist for Jessy Schram and Steven Weber, MacDonald revealed:
At the onset of the season, the writing team and I carefully crafted the storyline and remained committed to our initial vision, making only minor adjustments as we carried it through execution.
As the next few months lack new episodes of One Chicago, I might return to Season 10 to reevaluate if there were hints about Hannah and Archer’s relationship that I may have overlooked or underestimated, considering their connection seemed limited to sharing breakfast cereal in private.

Subscribe to Peacock TV for just $7.99 per month or $79.99 annually to revisit Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and Chicago P.D.! For a little more, you can upgrade to Peacock Premium and get rid of ads as well as the ability to download titles to watch offline later. Take advantage of this deal now!
It remains uncertain if Hannah brought anything other than cereal during her unexpected visit at his apartment. Given Lizzy’s reaction, it seems reasonable that Archer is the most likely person for Hannah to confide in about her pregnancy. I support him as a supportive figure for her during this time.
Currently, there are more unanswered questions than solutions, and I’ve been indecisive about what specific storylines I hope to see involving Hannah and Archer for several seasons. The showrunner has hinted that the series Med may reach its 200th episode in Season 11.
We do have plans but still need to work out the specifics.
regretfully, I must inform you that a fresh episode of Chicago Med won’t be airing next week, as it appears the One Chicago dramas might not return for the 2025-2026 television season until September. For now, feel free to rewatch previous episodes on Peacock or explore some summer TV offerings instead.
