Chicago Med Star Jessy Schram Talks Switching From Scrubs To ‘Real-Life People Clothes’ For Hallmark Christmas Movies

While Jessy Schram is known for her role on NBC’s One Chicago, she recently traded her medical scrubs for glamorous gowns in the Hallmark Christmas movie, A Suite Holiday Romance. The movie aired just before the end of 2025, and Schram, who also stars on Chicago Med, chatted with TopMob about the fun of wearing everyday clothes for a holiday film. Before she returns to her role in One Chicago in 2026, here’s what she shared about getting dressed up for Hallmark.

Though it first aired on December 13th, Hallmark is giving the TV movie A Suite Holiday Romance, starring Jessy Schram and Dominic Sherwood, special attention this holiday season with a Christmas Day rerun at 8 p.m. Eastern Time. The movie follows Sabrina, a writer hired to ghostwrite a memoir during the holidays, requiring her to stay at a luxurious hotel. She finds herself falling for a British man, but as with most Hallmark holiday movies, their romance isn’t quite as simple as it seems.

As a viewer of Chicago Med, I was much more accustomed to seeing actress Kate Schram dealing with complex personal relationships in a hospital setting, often in scrubs, or occasionally a funny Christmas sweater. So, when I had the chance to talk to her, I was curious: what was the experience like switching from her character’s hospital scrubs to glamorous dresses and high heels? Here’s what she told me:

It’s wonderful to finally wear normal clothes again! [laughs] Though, honestly, my feet are protesting a bit – I’ve gotten so used to comfortable shoes with good support. It’s a reminder that sometimes looking good means a little discomfort, but it’s a fun trade-off. I especially love it because I get to wear scrubs too, and that really completes the experience. Being able to step into this role and play a different character is amazing, and I feel like I appreciate it even more knowing I can switch back to comfort when I need to. Having both worlds is the best!

Many doctors and nurses swear by Hokas for their comfort, and it seems the actors who play medical professionals on TV feel the same way! While Sabrina, the actress in A Suite Holiday Romance, doesn’t get to wear comfortable shoes during filming, she found a clever way to include them anyway. Here’s what she had to say:

To be honest, I’d often wear my Hoka running shoes between takes. We were filming a scene near the end of the movie where my character runs to deliver some news, and halfway through, we noticed you could see my Hokas under my skirt and tights. The crew asked me to change shoes, but I told them it was just so much more comfortable to run in them!

If you don’t notice Sabrina’s shoes in A Suite Holiday Romance, she’s probably wearing something much more comfortable just off-screen. When I pointed out to actress Jessy Schram that a scene where she runs in heels felt like a stunt, she replied:

I’m actually quite proud of my ability to run in heels. This is the first job, Chicago Med, where I haven’t had to wear boots or stilettos for scenes requiring movement.

Jessy Schram, like many actors from the show Chicago Med, has transitioned between intense medical dramas and lighter, romantic Hallmark movies. Torrey DeVitto, who played Dr. Natalie Manning, previously returned to Chicago Med for a difficult storyline after filming Hallmark movies, describing them as a welcome break – something ‘light’ – between seasons of the demanding medical show.

Jessy Schram is no stranger to Hallmark holiday movies, having previously starred in films like Mystic Christmas, Time for Them to Come Home for Christmas, and A Nashville Christmas Carol.
