Chicago Fire: Is Herrmann Taking Over? You Won’t Believe It!

In the finale of Season 13, episode 21 of ‘Chicago Fire‘, events unfold that suggest a new chief will take over from Chief Dom Pascal at Firehouse 51, following his involvement in a significant traffic accident. Throughout this season of NBC’s ‘One Chicago’ series, Chief Pascal has carried a heavy emotional load, largely due to his strained relationship with his wife, Monica.

From a film enthusiast’s perspective, stepping into Chief Boden’s boots wasn’t an easy task for Chief Pascal, and truth be told, the Firehouse 51 crew (and us fans) didn’t exactly shower him with a heartfelt welcome at first. However, as the storyline unfolded, Chief Pascal gradually found his place within the team, fostering bonds that seemed unbreakable. Yet, a devastating incident caused him to withdraw once more, leaving us all yearning for his return to his former camaraderie.

In episode 15 of Season 13 for the series “Chicago Fire,” Monica Pascal tragically passed away following a car crash, leaving Chief Pascal devastated and struggling to cope with his loss. His grief manifested in several ways, such as placing blame on the other driver involved in the accident and even making threatening gestures towards him at one point.

In Chicago Fire’s Season 13, Episode 21, events shifted dramatically following the fire department’s response to an automobile collision. The unfortunate victim turned out to be Robert Franklin, who was also involved in the crash that claimed the life of Monica Pascal.

In this scenario, Lieutenant Kelly Severide (played by Taylor Kinney) led the investigation and discovered it was an attempted murder case. As he delved deeper into the mystery, Chief Pascal emerged as a possible suspect due to a lack of confirmation for his alibi stating that he was home alone during the incident. The situation became more complex when the evidence uncovered by forensics originated from the Chicago Fire Department.

It turned out that Pascal was being set up, and this appeared to be connected to his previous experience in Miami. Pascal confided in Severide that his ex-battalion chief, Hendricks, had a shady past involving organized crime.

Pascal amassed sufficient proof to incriminate Hendricks, yet this situation had a detrimental impact on his marriage with Monica as she grew concerned for her safety, leading to her departure from Miami.

The reason Pascal relocated to Chicago was to salvage his marriage; however, things took a turn for the worse following Monica’s demise. (Learn about the heartfelt tribute on Chicago Fire dedicated to Monica Pascal.)

The final scene showed Chief Pascal being arrested, leaving the Firehouse 51 team visibly distraught.

Initially, it seemed that Chief Pascal had come to terms with his destiny, as he appeared to be handing over the leadership of Firehouse 51 to Captain Herrmann (David Eigenberg), implicitly suggesting, “You might find yourself in the big office ahead of schedule.

In addition to the existing situation, the interaction between Herrmann and Chief Pascal was tense because Herrmann required him to compose a recommendation letter to strengthen his bid for promotion to Battalion Chief.

Will Captain Herrmann Replace Chief Pascal in Chicago Fire?

With his extensive experience as a seasoned firefighter and a long-standing member of the Chicago Fire team, Christopher Herrmann might have encountered various situations in his career, which makes him a suitable choice for the position of Chief at Firehouse 51.

Instead of Chief Pascal, who is still getting acquainted with the firehouse team, Herrmann’s longstanding relationships with the crew (on both personal and professional levels) will enable him to be a more effective and prepared leader for Firehouse 51 when the matters concerning Pascal have been addressed.

In the final episode of Chicago Fire’s Season 13, it’s likely that Severide will survive and assist Pascal in overcoming his current predicament. However, the intense emotional strain from losing his wife and being falsely accused might become overwhelming for him. This could explain why he instructed Herrmann to prepare himself, suggesting that Severide is resigned to the possibility of leaving, regardless of the outcome.

In the Season 13 finale, it seems that Herrmann stands a good chance of being promoted, as he has gained Chief Pascal’s approval and might be able to clear the Chief’s test.
