Cheryl beams as she makes first public appearance since Liam Payne’s death while stepping out to support Girls Aloud bandmate Nicola Roberts’ new West End role

Cheryl Tweedy was seen in public for the first time since Liam Payne passed away on Wednesday evening.

The 42-year-old singer attended the gala night for Hadestown, an event honoring up-and-coming talent at the Lyric Theatre in London.

Photographers captured Cheryl as she arrived at the venue to support her Girls Aloud bandmate, Nicola Roberts, who is performing in the show.

This is Cheryl’s first public appearance since the passing of her former partner and the father of her son, Teddy, Liam Payne, last year.

Shortly after he passed away in November, the musician was featured in a previously recorded interview with Girls Aloud that aired on ITV.

In August, she was announced as the new brand ambassador for Nivea skincare, signaling her return to public view.

Last week, her killer stalker was jailed once again for breaching a restraining order.

Daniel Bannister, 50, a convicted killer, seemingly ‘can’t stay away’ from the Girls Aloud star. He has already been imprisoned for committing this same crime before.

On Tuesday at Reading Crown Court, a judge gave him a 12-month jail sentence after he pleaded guilty to one count of violating a restraining order.

In a victim impact statement, Cheryl revealed she is ‘on edge every time I open my gate’.

People close to Cheryl have said she’s been very upset after the sentencing, but her son Bear is everything to her. She wants to concentrate on him, especially with the first anniversary of his father’s passing approaching.

A friend of Cheryl shared with The Mirror: ‘She’s understandably relieved about the jail sentence, and her priority is now her son, Bear. However, she remembers he relapsed after his previous imprisonment, so it’s difficult for her to completely put this behind her.’

‘But she’s a fiercely strong woman and Bear is her world, so he’s her only focus right now.’

The source also said that people are wishing she can now focus on what truly matters to her, and thoughtfully commemorate the anniversary of Liam’s passing, free from the burden of this awful situation. ‘Everyone’s hoping she can concentrate on what’s important to her now, and be able to mark the anniversary of Liam’s death properly, without this horrendous thing weighing on her.

Daily Mail contacted a representative for Cheryl at the time.

TikTok users recently shared clips from a 2019 documentary featuring Liam and Ant Middleton. These clips highlighted how amicable Liam and Cheryl were, even after ending their relationship.

On the show Ant Middleton & Liam Payne: Straight Talking, the two stars ventured to Namibia for a challenging and intense survival experience.

Oh my gosh, Ant actually *asked* Liam about Cheryl and Bear! I was on the edge of my seat! And Liam, being the amazing person he is, said, ‘We found our own unique situation around things, and obviously it’s not the most normal situation in the world, granted.‘ Isn’t that just… everything? It’s so cryptic and perfect! I just need to know more! He’s so right, it’s totally unique, and I’m completely obsessed with understanding it!

Honestly, at this point in my life, I’m not even sure what normal means anymore. Most of my life has been pretty unconventional, so I don’t expect things to change now. It’s just… why would it be?
