Georgia Holt, who passed away in 2022 at the age of 96, ended her marriage with her fourth spouse, Joseph Harper Collins, as she found him to be overly exuberant in intimate settings.

In the summer of 1957, Cher’s mother first encountered the successful property tycoon at a social gathering. Not long after this encounter, they became engaged. (Cher is currently 78 years old.)

At the age of nine, Cher had already lived through her mother’s marriage to Collins. As a result, she and her sister Georganne shifted to their new stepfather’s residence in Beverly Hills.

She expressed relief when she stated that all her concerns regarding finances, employment, and ensuring meals vanished. Since they moved into Joe’s house, she transformed into a completely new individual – cheerful and free of worries.

Although the happiness in their marriage didn’t endure, as Cher put it, ‘Joe took things too excessively for my mom’s comfort.’ He was known for his lively social life, frequent drinking, and adventurousness in intimate moments.

Cher stated that Collins expressed a desire for more adventurous sexual experiences, including involvement with other women. However, this was an aspect that her unsuspecting mother found difficult to accept.

The singers mentioned that Collins was told by her mother something like, ‘I know you care for me, Joe, but I can’t let you do that.’

In her words, they had been attempting to find a solution for quite some time since neither Joe nor my mom desired to acknowledge the termination of their union, but sadly, the illusion of their relationship had come to an end. Notably, this marriage lasted less than a year according to Cher’s disclosure.

But there was no bad blood between her mother, Collins or Cher and her sister.

To facilitate their separation, he agreed to cover the rental expenses for a property where the three ladies would reside for half a year. This allowed Georgia the necessary breathing space to regain financial stability.

‘Joe was a class act,’ Cher wrote with affection.

Over the span of her life, Georgia got married a total of seven times, each time to a distinct individual.

In her album, the singer of “I’ve Got You Babe” shared insights about her marriage with Sonny Bono as well. She mentioned that he often accused her of being responsible for his infidelities.

In her recently published memoir, she alleges that their marriage deteriorated due to his frequent accusations against her, as she declined his advances for intimacy at will.

In the midst of her recovery from her third miscarriage, she found out that he had been unfaithful. He said to her, ‘If I were sexually fulfilled within our marriage, I wouldn’t need to look elsewhere,’ a statement she alleges was made by him.

The legendary singer also describes her ex-husband as controlling and ‘Machiavellian.’

Bono’s control over the situation became excessive, leading to restrictions such as being forbidden to visit friends, only allowed to venture outside for shopping, and prohibited from using fragrances since the former musician disliked the scent.

In her book, Cher mused about an enigma within him that remained elusive to her understanding. This mystery seemed to transform him from a charming, humorous individual into someone who would strip me of everything.

For quite some time now, I’ve been struggling to understand how he managed to do what he did, and even today, I find it hard to come to terms with it.

In the year 1962, she was merely sixteen years old when she first encountered Sonny at a coffee house in Los Angeles. At that time, he was twenty-seven years old, and during their initial encounters, she admired him greatly, even though upon their first meeting, he stated that he wasn’t romantically interested in her.

Over the course of their relationship, he encouraged her to give up her favorite pastimes like dancing and softball with family and friends. This change left her feeling deeply upset. He justified his request by stating that she shouldn’t waste time on frivolous activities.
